The role
What will you be doing?
As Head of Financial Reporting, you'll play a critical leadership role within Unum UK's Finance function, leading the delivery of internal and external financial reporting while helping ensure the business maintains a robust and effective financial control environment.
Reporting to the Financial Controller, this is a highly visible position with regular exposure to senior stakeholders, including Executive Committee members. You'll be responsible for ensuring high-quality financial reporting across multiple regulatory frameworks while driving continuous improvement, efficiency and automation across reporting processes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the preparation and delivery of statutory financial reporting under UK GAAP for Unum UK and its subsidiaries, ensuring compliance with all applicable reporting requirements.
- Overseeing Solvency II regulatory reporting, including the delivery of QRTs, SFCR and RSR submissions, ensuring accuracy, control and timely completion.
- Leading US GAAP financial reporting to Unum Group, working closely with key Finance stakeholders to deliver high-quality reporting and insight.
- Maintaining a strong financial control framework, ensuring compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements and supporting effective governance across the Finance function.
- Driving continuous improvement across reporting processes, identifying opportunities for automation, efficiency and enhanced controls.
- Acting as the primary relationship lead for external auditors, coordinating audit activity and ensuring issues are addressed effectively and efficiently.
- Producing high-quality reporting and supporting materials for senior stakeholders, helping inform strategic business decisions.
- Leading and developing a high-performing team, creating an environment that encourages accountability, collaboration and professional growth.
- Supporting wider Finance and business initiatives, contributing expertise to transformation projects and process improvement activities.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced financial reporting leader to influence key business decisions, work closely with senior stakeholders and play a significant role in the ongoing development of Unum UK's Finance function.
What will you bring?
We're looking for an accomplished finance leader who combines strong technical expertise with excellent stakeholder management and people leadership capabilities.
- A recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with significant post-qualification experience.
- Strong financial reporting experience gained within Financial Services, Insurance or a similarly regulated environment.
- A detailed understanding of UK GAAP, US GAAP, statutory reporting and financial control frameworks.
- Knowledge of Solvency II reporting requirements and broader financial regulatory reporting obligations.
- Proven experience leading reporting teams and developing high-performing individuals.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build credibility and influence at senior leadership level.
- Experience managing relationships with external auditors and overseeing complex audit programmes.
- A continuous improvement mindset, with a track record of enhancing reporting processes, controls and operational efficiency.
- Strong financial systems knowledge and an interest in leveraging technology, automation and process improvements.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills, with high attention to detail and a focus on delivering quality outcomes.

Location
Hybrid working. 3 days in office (Dorking, Surrey), 2 days from home.
