Head of Fleet Operations (UK)

We build the embodied intelligence that moves real vehicles safely, and the ecosystem a billion machines will run on in the future. Very few people in AI can say this. Every role here, whatever the team, plugs into that.

Here’s what this particular role covers.

🛠️ About our Fleet Operations Teams

As Head of Fleet Operations (UK), you will own the end-to-end translation of our customer-focused on-road testing strategy into tactical, executable plans — running UK Fleet Operations like a General Manager would run a business unit. You’ll be the one accountable for safe, efficient, and high-performing on-road operations across London and the wider UK. Our teams operate in a highly collaborative environment, working closely with Systems & Enablement (Fleet Servicing and Maintenance, Field Engineering, Operational Safety, Training, Systems & Insights, and Quality Assurance), as well as Software, Hardware, and Product teams to deliver high-impact solutions and keep testing aligned with company objectives.

🧠 Your day-to-day

  • Lead deployment of all UK on-road testing, coordinating Shift Leads to keep operators running across two shifts spanning 06:30–23:30, seven days a week
  • Manage and allocate work across a diverse team including operational Shift Leads, ensuring clear roles, accountability, and high performance
  • Work closely with supporting teams to maintain seamless operations
  • Continuously adjust operational plans as customer needs, technology, and strategic priorities evolve
  • Act as the primary escalation point for incident management and safety-critical decisions

🧩 What you’ll be working on

  • Owning the end-to-end deployment of our on-road ADAS testing strategy in the UK
  • Converting strategic milestones into detailed tactical plans and delivering key testing outputs and on-road performance metrics
  • Optimising resource allocation, balancing fleet availability with team schedules to maximise productivity
  • Driving continuous improvement in testing procedures, safety protocols, and team performance
  • Serving as a connective tissue between strategic planning and on-the-ground execution
  • Partnering with other Heads of Geo (US, UK, DE, JP) to align on global operating standards

🙌 You should apply if

  • You have proven operational management experience, ideally in automotive testing, tech, or a fast-moving, safety-critical field
  • You can turn high-level strategy into practical, executable operating plans
  • You have excellent people leadership skills, including experience managing diverse and/or shift-based teams, and a mixed workforce of contractors and full-time employees
  • You have a track record in resource planning and allocation across both fleet and personnel
  • You have strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience working across SW, HW, Product, and global Fleet Ops leadership
  • You are comfortable with ambiguity and a fast-changing environment, including on-call responsibility for incident management
  • You are based in or willing to relocate to London, and can be in-person most of the time
  • You have 5+ years managing large teams and/or an advanced degree in management or equivalent

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

More about Wayve:

🚀 Wayve is building the leading AI platform for autonomous driving. We are pioneering an end to end AI approach that enables vehicles to learn directly from real world experience, developing the ability to adapt, generalise and improve at scale. Instead of relying on hand coded rules or pre mapped environments, our AI Driver learns to drive by understanding the world around it. The result is technology that navigates complex urban environments with intelligence, precision and natural flow, unlocking meaningful advances in both safety and efficiency. We believe autonomy represents a once in a generation transformation in how people and goods move, comparable to the shift from horses to cars, and from human driven vehicles to intelligent machines.

Our ambition is to make autonomy universal. Wayve’s mapless and hardware agnostic AI platform integrates with global OEM partners, enabling continuous software evolution and unlocking advanced levels of automation from L2 plus through to L4 as our core AI model scales. In a race increasingly defined by intelligence and real world learning, Wayve is taking a distinct approach, building a generalisable driving intelligence that can power any vehicle, anywhere. By combining embodied AI with scalable deployment, we are creating technology that can be shaped to each OEM brand and driver experience, accelerating the transition to a safer, more intelligent future of mobility.

If that sounds like the kind of problem you want to spend your time on, we’d really like to hear from you.
