Head of Group FP&A
Permanent role. Hybrid working with 2 days per week based at our Handforth HO.
Some finance roles report the numbers. This one helps shape what happens next. We're looking for an exceptional Head of Group FP&A to lead financial planning, forecasting and performance insight across our Pets at Home Group, bringing together Retail, Vets and central operations into one clear, compelling view of performance. This is a high-profile leadership role for someone who can see beyond the spreadsheet. Someone who can turn complexity into clarity, challenge thinking constructively and translate financial performance into the story behind the numbers. You'll own our annual budget, reforecasting and five-year financial plan, helping senior leaders understand not just where we are, but where we're heading and what we need to do differently to get there.
The opportunity
- Shape the Group financial outlook, connecting commercial performance, strategic ambition and value creation.
- Own budgeting, forecasting and long-range planning, bringing together multiple businesses into one coherent Group view.
- Influence Executive and Board conversations, turning complex financial and operational data into clear choices and actions.
- Spot what's coming, identifying risks, opportunities and emerging performance trends early.
- Challenge the business brilliantly, asking the right questions, stress-testing assumptions and ensuring investment decisions are grounded in commercial reality.
- Bring the numbers to life, creating concise, compelling and executive-ready performance narratives.
- Transform how FP&A works, using better processes, automation, systems and analytics to improve forecasting and decision-making.
- Build an outstanding FP&A team, creating a culture of curiosity, commercial challenge, collaboration and continuous improvement.

What will make you stand out?
You'll be a qualified accountant, ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent, with significant FP&A, commercial finance or financial leadership experience gained within a complex organisation. But your qualification is only part of the story. We're looking for someone with the commercial instinct to know what matters, the intellectual curiosity to keep asking why and the confidence to challenge senior stakeholders when the numbers tell a different story. You'll be comfortable moving between detailed financial modelling and big-picture strategic conversations, credible with senior leaders and able to operate effectively when the answer isn't immediately obvious. Experience within omnichannel retail, healthcare, consumer services or subscription-based businesses would be particularly relevant, as would exposure to investor relations, finance transformation, planning systems or advanced analytics.
