POST: Head of Geography (Maternity Cover)
LOCATION: West Bromwich Collegiate Academy
SALARY: TMS/UPS + TLR 2.2
HOURS: Full Time - Maternity Cover
REQUIRED FOR: January 2027
West Bromwich Collegiate Academy is an oversubscribed Secondary School in the Black Country. The Academy opened its doors in September 2019 with 175 students and has continued to grow each year. It is now at full capacity with approximately 775 students on roll.
Recently graded by Ofsted as outstanding in 3 categories and extremely close to outstanding in the 4th, West Bromwich Collegiate Academy is committed to an inclusive education for all students at every ability level, and equipping students for the future through teaching them relevant and cutting-edge skills for the era in which they live. Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership for the Geography department, setting high expectations for teaching, learning, achievement and behaviour in line with the Academy's vision and priorities.
- Lead the planning, implementation and evaluation of an ambitious and knowledge-rich Geography curriculum, ensuring it meets the needs of all students and secures strong progress and outcomes.
- Ensure students have high levels of achievement through high standards and intervention when appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with middle and senior leaders across the Academy to contribute to whole-school improvement priorities and strategic development.
- Promote Geography across the Academy, fostering a culture of curiosity, participation and academic excellence within the subject.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate:
- Have a proven track record of delivering excellent outcomes in Geography and experience of teaching across Key Stages 3 and 4
- Be an exceptional classroom practitioner with high expectations of both learning and behaviour
- Able to inspire, motivate and enthuse pupils
- Be committed to raising standards for all and share the same drive to constantly learn and improve
- Show willingness to lead initiatives and show evidence of impact
- Demonstrate a passion to make a difference to others
- To be proficient with the use of technology for learning and have a willingness to innovate.
