Ready to shape global Markets Treasury positioning across major currencies?

Why HSBC

HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world. Guided by our purpose of opening up a world of opportunity, our ambition is to become the world’s most trusted bank globally, putting customers at the heart of everything we do.

The Role

Head of Global Portfolio Management is a senior global role within the Treasury Portfolio Office (TPO), working at the centre of Markets Treasury’s positioning and narrative. The role helps shape a coherent house view across markets, monetisation, financial resources and balance sheet deployment. Working as a peer to Portfolio Heads across major entities, it brings together market perspectives, portfolio analytics and external intelligence across key currencies including USD, GBP, EUR, HKD and JPY. Success means clear, credible portfolio narratives and recommendations that support timely decisions on liquidity deployment, interest-rate and spread risk and NII stabilisation. It also means consistent execution and reduced duplication through stronger global collaboration, governance and information sharing. The role operates in a closely governed environment with a strong focus on risk management, regulatory compliance and internal controls.

What you'll be doing

  • Shape and articulate a coherent global Markets Treasury portfolio strategy across major currencies and legal entities
  • Align market views, risk positioning and portfolio construction with Portfolio Heads across key entities
  • Develop the global monetisation framework across outright and repo markets with consistent assumptions and disciplined execution
  • Combine market intelligence, portfolio analytics and external insights to support decisions on liquidity deployment, interest-rate and spread risk and NII stabilisation
  • Partner with Financial Resource Management and other stakeholders to steer balance sheet, limits and risk capacity towards the most attractive opportunities
  • Build relationships with key counterparties to strengthen execution, monetisation and access in stressed markets
  • Present clear recommendations and portfolio narratives to senior management and governance forums
  • Maintain effective risk management, regulatory compliance and internal controls, escalating issues promptly and applying supervisory responsibilities where required

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
