Venn Group’s specialist Local Government team is recruiting an Interim Head of Governance, Assurance and Portfolio Delivery for a London Borough Council.
The role:
The Council is seeking an experienced Head of Governance, Assurance and Portfolio Delivery to provide leadership across governance, assurance, portfolio delivery, and business operations within Digital, Data and Technology. The primary areas of accountability include:
- Leadership of programme and project delivery functions including Governance of major transformation and digital programmes
- Portfolio reporting and performance management
- Assurance of business cases and delivery readiness
- Leadership of DDaT governance arrangements
- Strengthening management reporting and performance information
- Management oversight of the DPO and Information Governance teams
- FOI and SAR performance improvement, and Information Governance improvement planning
- Digital spend controls and Commercial governance
- Business operations oversight and Operational performance reporting

About you:
The Interim Head of Governance, Assurance and Portfolio Delivery will likely have come from one of the following backgrounds:
- Head of PMO and Governance
- Head of Portfolio Delivery and Assurance
- Assistant Director Governance
- Head of Corporate Governance
- Head of Transformation Office
- Head of Information Governance and Corporate Assurance
- Portfolio Director
- Director of Governance and Assurance
You will have significant experience of:
- Working in Local Government
- Programme planning and delivery
- Information Governance leadership; FOI; SARs; UK GDPR; ICO engagement
- Resource management and planning
- Reporting and Performance Management

Key details:
- Day Rate: £625 p/d umbrella (inside IR35)
- Location: London / Hybrid – 2 days per week onsite
- Start: ASAP
Why consider this role?
Reporting directly to the Director of Digital, Data and Technology, you will oversee a broad portfolio including programme delivery, governance, information management, data protection, commercial governance, and business operations. A key part of the assignment will be strengthening organisational accountability, governance discipline, and delivery transparency across a programme portfolio.
