Head of Governance, Risk & Compliance
📍 Essex | Hybrid

I’m recruiting for a Head of Governance, Risk & Compliance with a specialist software provider to the insurance industry.
This is a broad senior role spanning GRC, regulatory compliance, internal audit, Quality Assurance, risk, SDLC governance and AI governance, with a key focus on ensuring software development and releases remain aligned with evolving regulation.
My client already has an established governance environment, including ISO 27001, PCI-DSS and Cyber Essentials Plus, so this is about strengthening and evolving what's already in place rather than starting from scratch.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Knowledge of areas such as DORA, NIS2 and CRA would be valuable, but direct DORA experience isn’t essential.
The sweet spot is someone whose background is weighted towards GRC/Compliance, but who has sufficient technology knowledge to work confidently with development and technical teams.
