Head of Health & Safety – Specialist Services

Location: National role (home-based with UK-wide travel)

Salary: Up to £65,000, depending on experience, plus £5,000 car allowance

Contract: Permanent

Division: Specialist Services, Care Concern Group

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer, Specialist Services

Care Concern Group’s Specialist Services division is growing.

Our division comprises 32 specialist care services across the UK, supporting people with complex neurological, physical and long-term care needs. Our services include specialist nursing, neurorehabilitation and complex care environments, each requiring strong, practical and visible health and safety leadership.

As the division continues to develop, we are appointing an experienced Head of Health & Safety to lead our health and safety strategy, strengthen assurance and support operational teams to provide safe, compliant services. This is a senior, hands-on role with the opportunity to shape consistent standards across a diverse UK-wide portfolio.

About The Role

The Head of Health & Safety will lead the health and safety function across 32 specialist care services within Care Concern Group.

Working closely with the Specialist Services leadership team, operational leaders, registered managers, quality colleagues and the wider Group, you will provide expert advice, oversight and constructive challenge to ensure risks are understood and effectively managed.

You will combine strong technical expertise with a practical understanding of regulated care environments. The role will establish consistent systems, monitor performance, respond to emerging risks and help services translate policy into safe day-to-day practice for the people we support, colleagues, visitors and contractors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver the Specialist Services health and safety strategy, framework and annual improvement plan across all 32 services.
  • Provide clear assurance and reporting to the Specialist Services leadership team, highlighting performance, significant risks, incidents, trends and required actions.
  • Maintain effective health and safety management systems, policies and procedures that meet legal requirements and align with Care Concern Group standards.
  • Lead a risk-based programme of service visits, audits and inspections, ensuring actions are proportionate, clearly owned and completed within agreed timescales.
  • Provide expert support following serious incidents, enforcement contact or significant health and safety concerns, including investigation, root-cause analysis and shared learning.
  • Support services to manage key risks including fire safety, moving and handling, equipment, estates, contractors, COSHH, legionella, workplace transport and lone working.
  • Work alongside Operations, Quality, Property, Learning & Development, HR, Insurance and other Group functions to embed a positive and accountable safety culture.
  • Develop practical guidance and training for leaders and front-line teams, building confidence and capability in health and safety management.
  • Act as the division’s principal health and safety adviser and lead contact with enforcement bodies, specialist advisers, insurers and external partners when required.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
