I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

You will own the HR technology roadmap and the HRIS ecosystem, and you will drive automation and self-service so manual processes and complexity are reduced. You will also work with IT and external providers to keep everything stable, secure and joined up, in line with both local and global HR tech strategies.
Payroll, benefits and third-party providers will also sit with you. You will lead the team who make sure people are paid accurately and on time and that suppliers deliver value for money.
Alongside this, you will strengthen people data, reporting and dashboards so the business can make better decisions, and you will act as the senior operational lead for HR audits and regulatory reviews.
Above all, you will build and develop a high-performing, engaged team with a real culture of accountability, service and continuous improvement.
