Role Summary
A trusted, senior and hands-on HR generalist who can lead the HR and payroll functions end to end. The successful candidate will combine sound UK employment practice with strong operational delivery, safer, recruitment, payroll capability, excellent judgement and the ability to support senior leaders and managers.
Core Scope
- Strategic and operational HR advice, workforce planning and organisational change.
- Recruitment, safer recruitment, pre-employment checks and onboarding.
- Employment contracts, contractual changes, employee relations, absence, probation, performance and appraisal.
- Monthly payroll, including employee changes, statutory payments, pensions and payroll reporting.
- HR policies, staff compliance, personnel records and the Single Central Record.
- HR management information, data quality, process improvement and regulatory/inspection readiness.

Candidate Profile
Essential Experience
- Significant experience in HR management or a senior HR generalist role, including practical experience of UK employment practice.
- Experience of running or managing payroll, including statutory and pension requirements.
- Experience of coordinating complex administrative processes involving multiple stakeholders.
- Experience of managing recruitment and pre-employment checks; safer recruitment training or willingness to complete it promptly.
- Strong experience of database or management information systems.
- Experience of handling sensitive and confidential information.
Skills & Knowledge
- Good working knowledge of UK employment legislation, payroll requirements and HR good practice.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to produce clear documentation and advice.
- Exceptional organisation, attention to detail and accurate record keeping.
- Excellent prioritisation skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong IT capability and confidence learning new systems.
- Ability to identify inefficiencies and turn complex administrative requirements into simple, workable systems.

Desirable
- CIPD qualification or substantial equivalent HR experience.
- Payroll qualification (for example CIPP) or substantial equivalent experience.
- Experience within education environment.
- Knowledge of KCSI
