Responsibilities
This position will be responsible for leading the Health, Safety and Environment function across all VVB’s High Speed 2 projects. Main responsibilities will include:
- Provide health, safety and environmental leadership, advice and support at each project lifecycle stage i.e. Tender, Design, Construction, T&C and Handover
- Be the HSE Focal point for all of our HS2 related customers
- Create an ethos of collaboration and shared purpose across all our HS2 activities ensuring that we embrace a safety-first approach, safeguard health and protect the environment in all we do.
- Take a proactive role in the Safety and Project Support Services Leadership Team for VVB.
- Recruit, Lead and develop the VVB HS2 HSE Teams.
- Develop, Implement and measure the VVB HS2 Safety, Health and Environment strategy.

- Lead on all strategic and operational HSE matters across the VVB’s HS2 portfolio.
- Regular interaction with the HS2 Leadership team to produce regular updates and reports highlighting trends and variances
- Oversee and strategically develop HS2 specific IMS, H&S database and associated HSE software packages.
- Manage and develop the HS2 HSE team to ensure that the full range of their duties and responsibilities in relation to inspections, audits and changes in legislation are adhered to
- Ensure that an adequate programme of HSE related training for governance and compliance is established.
- Work closely with the Work Winning and Tender teams to explore and contribute to future HS2 work opportunities.
- Has overall responsibility to maintain and renew essential HS2 connected operational licenses, including ISO compliance and ensure that the IMS is current and fit for purpose
- Responsible for driving HSE objectives & targets across HS2 projects
- Represent the Company on relevant HS2 or HS2 connected industry panels

Requirements
- Relevant degree and/or NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
- Relevant professional membership (CMIOSH preferred)
- SMSTS
- CSCS or ECS card
- Accident investigation training
- Held a senior SHEQ role for a substantial period of time and managed a team working closely with a delivery function
- Experience of working in the Infrastructure environment across multiple schemes
- Has a contracting background
- Strong working experience operating at a strategic level
- Has developed and implemented key programmes in the areas of Environment, Quality and Sustainability.
- Management systems experience e.g. ISO standards
