I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About You
You are a confident, credible HR leader who thrives in fast-paced, operational environments where no two days are the same. Comfortable operating at both a strategic and hands-on level, you know how to balance long-term people planning with the realities of a complex, unionised workforce.
Naturally collaborative, you build trust quickly with senior stakeholders and are seen as a go-to adviser—someone who can challenge constructively, influence decisions, and bring clarity to complex people matters. You’re equally at ease in the boardroom as you are on the ground, engaging with frontline teams and understanding what truly drives performance.
You take a commercial, data-led approach, using insight to inform decisions rather than instinct alone. Whether shaping workforce strategy, resolving employee relations challenges, or leading organisational change, you bring a calm, solutions-focused mindset and a strong sense of accountability.
