Head of Infection Prevention and Control
Location: Cromwell Hospital, London
Permanent | Full time (37.5 hours)
Hybrid – 4 days onsite, 1-day WFH

We’re looking for an experienced and influential Head of Infection Prevention and Control to lead the development, delivery and continuous improvement of our Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) strategy across Cromwell Hospital and its Diagnostic and Outpatient Centres.
As a key member of the Hospital’s Senior Leadership Team, you’ll provide visible, credible leadership and independent assurance, ensuring our systems, environments and ways of working meet regulatory requirements, national standards and recognised best practice.
How You’ll Help Us Make Health Happen
- Lead the IPC strategy, annual programme and governance framework, ensuring alignment with organisational priorities and emerging risks.
- Chair the Infection Prevention and Control Committee, providing clear oversight of performance, compliance, risk and improvement.
- Provide expert advice, independent assurance and constructive challenge to executive, clinical and operational leaders.
- Ensure the organisation remains inspection-ready and compliant with relevant statutory and regulatory standards.
- Lead IPC incident and outbreak oversight, ensuring timely investigation, learning, escalation and organisational improvement.
- Design and deliver comprehensive IPC audit and surveillance programmes, using data and insight to identify trends, risks and improvement opportunities.
- Champion innovative, sustainable and technology-enabled solutions that reduce infection risk and improve patient and colleague experience.

Key Skills / Qualifications
- UK-registered healthcare professional, for example NMC, HCPC, GMC or equivalent.
- Postgraduate qualification in Infection Prevention and Control, Public Health or a related field, or currently working towards one.
- Significant post-registration experience within an acute, complex hospital or secondary-care setting.
- Extensive IPC experience in a dedicated senior role, with senior leadership experience at Head of, Lead or equivalent level, such as NHS Band 8a or 8b.
- Proven experience leading organisational surveillance, assurance, governance, risk management, audit and Board-level reporting.
- Strong knowledge of national IPC guidance, healthcare-associated infection prevention and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to influence multidisciplinary teams, provide constructive challenge and lead sustainable organisational change.
- Excellent analytical, communication, coaching and presentation skills, with a visible and collaborative leadership style.
