Head of IT

Capability Scotland is seeking a Head of IT who will oversee IT support, cyber security, infrastructure, supplier relationships, asset management, contracts, compliance, and business continuity, ensuring technology enables colleagues across the organisation to perform at their best.

Reporting to the Director of Finance & Resources, the successful candidate will be a credible source of IT expertise, who can collaborate with all levels of management. As a member of our senior team, you will contribute to the strategic direction of the organisation and play a key role in driving innovation, resilience, and continuous improvement. This is more than an IT leadership role. It’s an opportunity to use technology to make a meaningful difference in people's lives.

What you get to do

  • Design, develop and deliver Capability Scotland’s IT Strategy
  • Drive digital transformation initiatives across the organisation
  • Ensure the availability and performance of critical business systems
  • Lead infrastructure upgrades, migrations and modernisation projects
  • Maintain strong cyber security controls and standards, supporting initiatives such as Cyber Essentials Plus
  • Lead the IT team and manage outsourced support and helpdesk providers
  • Promote a strong culture of information security across the organisation
  • Lead the ongoing development of our Microsoft 365 and Azure environments, ensuring systems are secure, compliant and aligned to organisational needs.

What you bring

  • Significant experience leading IT functions across infrastructure, support, security and technology services
  • A proactive approach, working as a credible source of expertise for staff, senior management and trustees
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365, Azure and modern cloud technologies.
  • Experience developing IT strategies and leading change programmes.
  • Knowledge of cyber security frameworks, GDPR and information governance requirements.
  • Strong project management, budget management and supplier management skills.
  • Strong communication skills and agile thinking; contributing strategically to organisational-wide developments and projects
  • A collaborative leadership style and a commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
  • Experience of working at a senior level within a complex organisation and an understanding of accessibility and assistive technologies would be advantageous.
