Head of Technology PE-Backed Financial Data & Intelligence Business
Hybrid - London | £130,000 + 20% bonus
Maxwell Bond has been exclusively retained to find a Head of Technology for a well-established, market-leading financial data and intelligence business. Recently backed by private equity and growing internationally, the business is investing seriously in its technology and data capabilities as it enters its next phase of growth.
Reporting to the Chief Product Officer, you'll initially be hands-on:
- Understanding the current technology and data estate
- Identifying opportunities and risks
- Standing up prototypes and designing data models
From there, you'll move into customer delivery, technology execution, and ultimately team leadership as the function grows.
The business currently operates a deliberately lean technology model, with a small internal team supported by offshore development and external partners across areas including Salesforce, Azure, M365, and other platforms.
As the Head of Technology you'll be…
- Technology & data architecture: getting hands-on with the existing estate, identifying technical debt and opportunities, designing scalable data models, and helping shape the future architecture of the platform
- Engineering & delivery: working closely with internal teams and offshore development partners to turn prototypes and ideas into production-ready customer solutions
- Financial services data: working with sensitive banking, trading, portfolio, or other regulated financial data where security, accuracy, resilience, and governance are critical
- Security & compliance: owning the technology side of GDPR, SOC 2 Type 2, and ISO 27001 requirements, including preparing for and navigating audits, committees, and regulatory scrutiny
- Technology resilience: ensuring appropriate disaster recovery, business continuity, security controls, and operational resilience are in place
- Data & analytics: helping evolve a B2B data-processing platform, with a strong understanding of data pipelines, models, analytics, and the challenges of working with high-value financial data
- AI: identifying practical opportunities to introduce AI into a data-rich business that is still relatively early in its AI journey
- Third-party technology: managing Salesforce, Azure, M365, and external/offshore development partners, ensuring suppliers deliver against expectations
- Commercial technology management: maintaining discipline around licensing, contracts, TCO, and technology investment, ensuring spend creates genuine business value
- Team development: initially working closely with the existing team and partners, before building out your technology function as the business reaches the next stage of its growth

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

As the Head of Technology we're looking for…
- Direct experience working within banking or financial services, ideally around sensitive trading, portfolio, market, or financial data
- A strong engineering, DevOps, or technical architecture background, with enough hands-on depth to get into the detail rather than operating purely at a strategic level
- Experience working with data platforms, data processing, data models, and analytics
- Strong understanding of GDPR, information security, resilience, and regulatory governance
- Some experience with SOC 2 Type 2 / ISO 27001, including implementing controls, preparing for or managing audits, and working through compliance requirements
- Experience navigating risk, compliance, audit, and governance committees and communicating effectively with senior stakeholders
- The ability to work effectively across internal teams and offshore/external development partners
- Experience managing a lean, vendor-led technology estate and getting the best out of third parties
- Commercial awareness around technology investment, licensing, suppliers, and total cost of ownership
- A practical approach to technology: someone who can move between strategy, architecture, engineering, delivery, and commercial discussions depending on what the business needs
