We are working with a £250m+ Retail organisation going through an exciting period of growth, transformation and change.
They're looking for an experienced Head of IT to help shape the next phase of their technology journey, with genuine scope to influence strategy, innovation, scalability and enterprise-wide transformation.
This isn't simply a role overseeing an established IT function. You'll have the opportunity to build, modernise and scale the technology function to support a growing organisation, while working closely with senior leadership to ensure technology continues to enable the wider business.
We're looking for someone who has come through a strong technical background and is comfortable operating at both strategic and hands-on levels, someone who can discuss technology strategy with senior leadership while remaining technically credible with engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver the organisation's IT and technology strategy, aligned with business growth and commercial objectives.
- Lead, mentor and develop the IT team, creating a high-performing culture focused on accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Shape and scale the IT function, ensuring people, processes and technology can support continued business growth.
- Lead modernisation across infrastructure, cloud, networking, security and end-user technology.
- Provide senior technical oversight across a complex, multi-site technology environment.
- Act as a senior escalation point for complex technical and infrastructure issues when required.
- Drive improvements across IT service delivery, user experience, resilience and operational performance.
- Lead and support significant technology transformation and change programmes.
- Work closely with senior stakeholders to ensure technology delivers genuine business value.
- Manage external technology partners and suppliers, ensuring strong performance, governance and value.

ERP & Transformation
Experience of ERP transformation or implementation would be highly desirable. You'll ideally have supported a business through a significant ERP programme and understand the wider technology considerations around infrastructure, integrations, security, data, testing, deployment and business adoption.
Experience with major enterprise ERP platforms would be beneficial, although specific product experience is not essential.
About You:
We're looking for an IT leader with genuine technical credibility who has progressed from an engineering or infrastructure background.
You may have started your career as a Systems Administrator, Network Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, Software Developer, Cloud Engineer, Technical Architect or similar, before progressing into senior IT leadership.

You'll ideally bring:
- Senior IT leadership experience within a £250m+ / enterprise-scale organisation.
- Ideally experience within retail, e-commerce or another complex, multi-site environment.
- A strong technical foundation across infrastructure, systems, networking, cloud or architecture.
- Experience scaling and modernising technology estates to support business growth.
- Experience leading technical teams and developing people.
- Strong understanding of areas such as cloud, networking, identity, security and virtualisation.
- Experience delivering technology transformation and managing third-party partners.
- Strong commercial awareness and the ability to balance technical requirements with business priorities.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into clear business outcomes.
The Person:
We're looking for someone who can bridge the gap between technical execution and business strategy.
Someone who is strategic but still technically engaged, commercially minded, comfortable with ambiguity and competing priorities and passionate about using technology to improve how a business operates.
