Head of Infrastructure and DevOps
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Head of Infrastructure and DevOps based in the United Kingdom.
This is a senior engineering leadership opportunity focused on building and maintaining the infrastructure that powers highly scalable, distributed products. You will lead DevOps and Infrastructure teams responsible for the availability, reliability, scalability, and security of staging and production environments. The role combines strategic leadership with strong hands-on expertise across SRE, CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, and Infrastructure as Code. You will establish engineering standards that reduce release risk, accelerate delivery, and strengthen operational resilience. A major focus will be building a high-performing, globally distributed team through hiring, coaching, technical guidance, and career development. This role is ideal for an experienced infrastructure leader who thrives in a fast-growing technology environment and uses data to drive engineering decisions.
Accountabilities
- Lead DevOps and Infrastructure teams responsible for the development, deployment, and operation of critical technical infrastructure.
- Ensure high availability, scalability, reliability, and resilience across staging and production environments.
- Establish and enforce SRE and DevOps best practices to improve operational performance and engineering quality.
- Drive toward zero incorrect release-related production issues through rigorous CI/CD testing, automation, and review processes.
- Maintain 99.9% availability for CI/CD and staging infrastructure through resilient systems, monitoring, and proactive reliability practices.
- Drive toward 99.99% product availability by implementing resilient architectures, operational procedures, and effective disaster recovery strategies.
- Accelerate engineering delivery by reducing lead times across CI/CD pipelines and development environments.
- Design, build, and continuously improve complex CI/CD pipelines, deployment strategies, and Infrastructure as Code practices.
- Strengthen secure development environments and ensure infrastructure and deployment processes follow appropriate security standards.
- Lead and develop a high-performing infrastructure organization across multiple regions and time zones.
- Strengthen hiring processes and build a team of highly capable engineers aligned with organizational goals.
- Provide technical leadership, coaching, feedback, and career development to team members.
- Build strong relationships with neighboring engineering teams and act as an effective interface between Infrastructure and the wider organization.
- Use operational and engineering metrics to evaluate performance, identify opportunities, and justify technical decisions.

Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience leading engineering or infrastructure teams within a fast-growing multinational technology organization.
- At least 5 years of experience in DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering, supporting high-RPS distributed products.
- Strong hands-on expertise in DevOps practices, particularly complex CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, and modern deployment strategies.
- Proven experience designing, deploying, and maintaining large-scale, highly available applications in public cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Practical experience building secure development and deployment environments.
- Strong understanding of SRE principles, reliability engineering, scalability, observability, and production operations.
- Data-driven approach to engineering leadership, with the ability to use concrete metrics to assess performance and support technical decisions.
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to establish effective agreements and collaborate across engineering functions.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical guidance while also developing and mentoring high-performing teams.
- Comfortable operating across distributed teams, multiple regions, and different time zones.
- Experience with technologies such as Kubernetes, GitLab CI, AWS, Kafka, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Prometheus, VictoriaMetrics, Jaeger, .NET Core, or Vue.js is valuable.
