LEGO Digital Play – Central Technology: Head of Infrastructure

About the Role

LEGO Digital Play is pioneering the brand’s entry into digital entertainment, ensuring LEGO remains a powerhouse in children’s lives for decades to come. We aim to reach millions of kids, parents, and adult fans globally, delivering meaningful, magical, and playful digital experiences.

As part of LEGO Group, LEGO Digital Play offers a ground-breaking opportunity to build a new venture from the ground up. Our culture is open, collaborative, intellectually rigorous, and creatively vibrant.

The Central Technology team is the engineering backbone of LEGO Digital Play, focusing on architecture foundations, tools, and capabilities that power LEGO’s digital future. We develop playful, AI-enabled digital experiences and are shaping something revolutionary within a globally beloved brand.

The Opportunity: Head of Infrastructure

As Head of Infrastructure, you’ll design and build the foundational technical infrastructure that supports LEGO Digital Play. You’ll lead cross-team collaboration on cloud frameworks (multi-cloud: Google Cloud & AWS), AI/ML platforms, developer capabilities, and platform reliability. This is a newly-built, greenfield leadership role, relocating to London HQ.

This role demands a strong player-coach mindset—hands-on with engineering decisions while guiding growth as the team scales.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Vision & Leadership

  • Define and own the infrastructure roadmap for:
    • Cloud foundations (landing zones, identity & access, networking)
    • AI/ML infrastructure (GPU orchestration, model serving, MLOps)
    • Developer platforms (shared tooling, paved roads)
    • Platform reliability (SLOs, observability, error budgets)
  • Shaping priorities with stakeholders in Central Technology, AI teams, and internal studios, ensuring architectural alignment.

Core Infrastructure Build

  • Implement a sound multi-cloud foundation:
    • Google Cloud & AWS landing zones, Terraform-based IaC, IAM, secrets management.
    • Robust networking, observability pipelines, and platform-wide monitoring tools.
  • Build an AI/ML-ready platform:
    • GPU orchestration infrastructure.
    • Scalable model serving (e.g., Triton, vLLM) and fully-managed trainers.
    • MLOps integration (containers, experiment tracking, artifact storage).
  • Internal Developer Platform: Delivery of paved paths (platform services) to surface micromanagement for engineering teams.
    • Enforce first-class self-service rather than reactive ticket triage.
    • Build tools that reduce team friction at speed, from zero.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Reliaibility & Scalability

  • Architect infrastructure-layer reliability primitives:
    • Defining SLOs, error budgets, and distributed systems resilience practices.
    • Develop a stable observability instana/Cloudopsian-like framework for all services.
    • Financial diligence: Implement FinOps policies (visibility, cost anomaly detection, and allocation), ensuring a cost-aware engineering culture.

Security & Compliance

  • Embed strong controls from foundational cloud layers:
    • Least-privilege IAM roles, encryption (at rest & in transit), residency policies.
    • Auditing frameworks: Comply with GDPR & COPPA at platform depth.
    • Partner with LEGO Child Safety Products (via mechanisms like infrastructure directives) where critical.

Team Culture & Growth

  • Staff & grow a high-performing infrastructure team in greenfield mode:
    • Revise technical standards—day zero competing with older systems.
    • Foster engineering excellence (iterative process without delay) while building operating rhythm as the org matures.
  • Represent LEGO Digital Play infrastructure at both technical journal meetings and Exordium-level strategy sessions.
  • Advocate trade-off trade-offs to senior leadership.

About You

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated leadership/ownership in infrastructure/platform cloud engineering (either in management or staff-level roles).
  • Hands-on knowledge of Terraform at scale (multi-account/region).
  • Deep expertise in AWS (multi-region, organisations, networking, IAM).
  • Preference given to Google Cloud proficient ( سيد’ll build shared multi-cloud ops tooling).
  • Greenfield-minded: capable of making ambiguous decisions, building new systems, and maximising agility.
  • Platform-first thinker, prioritising engineering experience (self-service over reactive ops).
  • Foundation in reliability SLOs—track breakdowns, incidents (structured narratives), budgeting tools.
  • Security-socio-conscious in deploying child-safe, multi-country regulated infrastructure.
    • Familiarity with GDPR (high impact) and COPPA rules.
  • FinOps/day-one cost pipeline steward: visibility on domain-specific cost split tracking tools that avoid reactive escalations.
  • Collaborative leadership: doesn’t command consensus easily, listens, builds empathy, and influences without rank.
  • Player-coach cultures: comfy reviewing architecture, drafting components, and shipping code just like the junior devs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Multi-cloud production builders with significant depth in Google & AWS deployments.
  • AI & ML operations background:
    • GPU orchestration (ThorData, Kubeflow, Surgical).
    • Model-serving (Triton v2, vLLM) and experiment pipelines (MLflow, Weights & Biases).
  • Exposure to self-managed internal developer platform (Toolbar, platform-as-a-service).
  • Child/regulated product experience always valued – photosensor-equipped toys, healthcare fintech, walled gardens (*iOS/Android appendities).
  • Gaming/streaming infrastructure: assets at scale, media piping narrations, peak usage pricing/enforceability.
  • Firewall isolation of sandboxed runtimes (Unity, Unreal plug-ins, or raw Espresso/public tracker access).
  • Platform team scaling timing in org design: when to introduce next-level management.
