About You

  • Leading multiple, complex, global IT projects concurrently
  • Leading vendor management disciplines including suppliers with multi-million pound contracts
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen
  • Leadership of multi-disciplined teams with a blend of internal talent, contractors and third party suppliers
  • Experience of both project and product-based delivery is desirable

About The Role

This role is hybrid working, will require 2-3 office days and 2 days from home.

At Matalan, technology is a key enabler of our transformation, helping us deliver great experiences for our customers and colleagues. As our Head of Delivery, you'll play a pivotal role in making that happen.

Leading our IT Delivery function, you'll be responsible for ensuring our technology portfolio is delivered successfully, balancing pace with governance to bring strategic initiatives to life. You'll oversee project delivery, vendor partnerships and IT financial management, ensuring our investment delivers real value for the business.

This is a highly collaborative leadership role where you'll work closely with stakeholders across the organisation, building strong relationships, driving continuous improvement and creating an environment where high-performing teams can thrive. Whether it's shaping our delivery roadmap, managing strategic supplier partnerships or optimising technology investment, you'll ensure our IT function is set up to deliver today while preparing for the future.

What will I be responsible for?

Leadership

  • Leadership and development of internal talent, ensuring we have the appropriate level of knowledge and skills across the team(s) and appropriate succession planning
  • Leadership and performance management of contractors
  • Leadership and performance management of the IT department's third party suppliers

IT Portfolio and Project Management

  • Establish and maintain an accurate view of the IT delivery roadmap(s), aligning where appropriate with relevant internal stakeholders and third party suppliers
  • Establish an IT Delivery methodology which promotes the right balance between speed and control, assuring its application across IT projects
  • Overseeing the continuous improvement of project management processes and practices
  • Accountable for demand and capacity planning across the internal IT team and IT third parties in respect of project delivery; scaling the delivery team as appropriate
  • Assure positive customer satisfaction through delivery of projects to the agreed cost, time, scope, quality and security constraints
  • Ensuring that IT projects and IT workstreams are planned and tracked appropriately
  • Establish regular, clear and consistent channels of communication at the appropriate levels within the organisation
  • Overseeing the mitigation of key risks and issues across the IT Portfolio

Vendor Management

  • Establish IT vendor management governance
  • Accountable for the contractual and commercial relationships with all third party vendors providing IT services into Matalan
  • Oversee commercial and contractual negotiations including contract setup, renewals and terminations
  • Accountable for defining and leading cost optimisation opportunities with third party services and products
  • Measure and report on vendor management function performance

IT Financials

  • Accountable for the management of IT CAPEX and OPEX budgets
  • Continuous re-forecasting of costs, mitigating any associated risks; invoice reconciliation; and payment disputes
