We are working with a major UK engineering and technical services organisation who are undergoing a significant business and technology transformation.

As part of a wider transformation strategy, the business is investing heavily in creating a more joined up, scalable and efficient technology function that can support future growth, operational excellence and continued integration.
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced technology transformation leader to help shape and build the future operating model of a complex, federated organisation.
The Opportunity
Reporting into the CIO organisation, the Head of IT Functional Excellence will be responsible for driving consistency, governance, capability and operational excellence across the Group Technology function.
This role sits at the heart of a multi-year transformation programme focused on creating a more connected and effective technology organisation. You will help define how technology operates across the group, establishing the frameworks, processes and governance needed to bring alignment across multiple business units while respecting local operational needs.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
