Head of Legal

Cyan Partners are partnering exclusively with a well-capitalised insurance brokerage consisting of a founding team with a track record of taking UK businesses from start-up to flotation. The start-up venture is seeking its first Head of Legal, a strategic, commercially minded legal leader who will build, lead, and scale the legal function from the ground up. This is an important hire for the business who will partner closely with the executive leadership team and help to shape their growth through scale-up to public listing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Terms & Conditions including a Full Review
  • Review & Update Material Contracts:
    • Cover critical suppliers, lease arrangements, and similar agreements
    • Track renewal dates (owned by Legal Ops)
  • HR:
    • Full review of employment contracts
    • Review of HR policies and procedures
    • Onboarding and offboarding processes
  • Corporate:
    • Review share schemes
    • Company secretarial support
  • International:
    • Agree the approach to non-licensed jurisdictions (regulatory and marketing angles)
  • GDPR
  • Legal Operations

This is an outstanding opportunity for a corporate/commercial lawyer of at least c. eight years’ post qualification experience to set up and lead a legal function with a fast-growing and ambitious business.

Our client is looking for someone with experience gained with a leading UK law firm ideally supplemented with experience as in-house counsel, which could include secondment experience. They are looking for someone with all-round corporate and commercial legal skills and an entrepreneurial and business-minded approach. Experience of the insurance sector may be an advantage but is not a prerequisite.
