The opportunity
As part of the continued development of Harrisons and our private client offering, we are looking to speak with an experienced Private Client Solicitor interested in joining us as Head of Legal. This is not simply a traditional fee-earning position. We are looking for someone who can bring significant private client expertise to Harrisons while also playing a senior role in shaping how our legal offering develops. The right person will combine strong technical knowledge with commercial awareness, leadership and an interest in building something. Harrisons already supports private clients, professional advisers and public-sector organisations across estate administration, genealogy and beneficiary tracing, property and asset services. Our aim is to bring these disciplines increasingly closer together, supported by senior legal expertise and strong professional partnerships.
The role
The scope of the position will develop with the right individual but is expected to include:
- Providing senior technical expertise across probate and estate administration matters.
- Supporting complex estates and matters involving inheritance tax.
- Providing technical oversight and guidance across the wider private client function.
- Helping develop robust processes, standards and ways of working.
- Supporting and developing relationships with solicitors, accountants, financial advisers and other professional partners.
- Identifying opportunities to develop and strengthen Harrisons' private client offering.
- Working closely with the leadership team on the continued development of Harrisons.
- Providing senior input on complex or unusual matters where appropriate. There may also be an element of fee-earning depending upon the experience, interests and preferred structure of the successful individual.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About you
We would particularly like to speak with someone who:
- Is a qualified Solicitor with substantial experience in Private Client law.
- Has strong technical knowledge of probate, estate administration, inheritance tax and complex estates.
- Is comfortable operating at a senior level and exercising professional judgement.
- Has experience supervising, mentoring or providing technical guidance to others.
- Understands the commercial realities of developing a private client practice.
- Is comfortable building relationships with professional referrers and external partners.
- Is interested in contributing to the strategic development of a growing business rather than stepping into a narrowly defined fee-earning role. Existing professional relationships or a strong network within the private client sector would be advantageous.

We are deliberately keeping the structure of this opportunity flexible. It could suit an established Private Client Solicitor looking for a consultancy or fractional leadership position, someone wishing to work alongside an existing practice, or an individual interested in exploring a more substantial long-term role with Harrisons. The precise structure, commitment and commercial arrangement will therefore be discussed with the right individual.
