About Redbridge
Redbridge is a place with plenty going on. Ambitious regeneration plans and new investments will deliver lasting change for the borough, enhancing quality of life and creating new opportunities for our communities. And we are modernising our organisation to be more agile, innovative and impactful. We are harnessing the full potential of our people as well as technology. We need leaders who are ready to take things to the next level.
About the Role
This is a key leadership role in the Council, with responsibility for the effective and efficient collection of business rates and council tax – each of which are essential elements of the Council’s financial resource, and the foundation on which we deliver services. You’ll have overall responsibility for a large team (circa 45 people), so it’s important that you have excellent people management skills, working with the team to embed a customer-centric approach while continually looking for opportunities to enhance performance, utilising technology to enhance the team’s capacity and enhance the customer experience.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Redbridge is a hugely diverse borough, both in terms of our individual households and the myriad businesses that are essential to the local economy. So, it’s essential that you appreciate the particular challenges of pursuing arrears and enforcement in such a setting. As well as being technically proficient, we are also looking for someone who can be outward focused – enabling you to engage effectively with the local community and its businesses, and to see the crossover and interdependencies of your work with other parts of the Council, such as Planning or Licensing.
You’ll work to ensure clear and consistent messaging to residents and businesses, backed up by efficient systems and processes in order to maximise income, and support investment and business growth in the borough.
