About Nter Talent
Nter Talent is recruiting for a Head of Logistics on behalf of a growing pallet solutions and circular-economy business based in Doncaster. This is a genuinely senior leadership opportunity for a commercially minded logistics professional to take ownership of a transport and maintenance function, shaping its future direction.
Location / Working Pattern
- Location: Based in Doncaster, with travel to other sites required in line with business needs.
- Working Hours: Core hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm (42.5 hours per week), with some flexibility required to meet business needs.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Directors, you'll lead the strategy for the Transport and Maintenance departments, with 2 Transport Managers and a Maintenance Manager reporting into you. You'll ensure transport runs safely, efficiently, and compliantly, while also overseeing the maintenance, servicing, and repair of vehicles, machinery, and hand tools in line with legal requirements and a safety-first culture.
Key Priorities
- Set the medium and long-term logistics strategy, aligning fleet, people, systems, and service performance with wider business objectives.
- Bring strong commercial awareness - identifying growth opportunities, monitoring market trends, and maintaining a customer-centric approach.
- Lead and develop the transport and maintenance team, prioritising upskilling and future capability.
- Own day-to-day logistics performance - planning, route management, fleet utilisation, and service levels.
- Champion compliance and safety, including Operator Licence requirements, driver hours, Working Time Directive, tachograph management, and vehicle maintenance.
- Drive commercial performance - managing logistics costs, improving cost-to-serve, and identifying efficiency opportunities.
- Use data and KPIs to improve visibility and support better planning and decision-making.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen capacity and operational resilience.
- Work closely with Directors and wider teams as a senior operational partner.

What We're Looking For
Essential:
- CPC Transport Manager qualification, with the capability to support Operator Licence compliance at senior level.
- Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation, Operator Licence obligations, driver hours, Working Time Directive, tachograph management, and vehicle compliance.
- Extensive experience leading transport, logistics, or haulage operations within a fast-paced commercial environment.
- Proven track record managing a sizeable fleet and leading multi-disciplinary transport teams (drivers, managers, coordinators).
- Experience managing budgets, KPIs, service levels, and cost control.
- Strong commercial awareness, balancing customer service, compliance, efficiency, and profitability.
- Confident people management skills, including coaching, performance management, and employee relations.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, comfortable working closely with Directors and senior leaders.
- Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills, able to make sound decisions under pressure.
- Competent with Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and business management/CRM/ERP systems.
- Experience leading operational change, process improvement, or system implementation projects.

- Knowledge of heavy vehicle maintenance requirements and fleet availability planning.
- Experience within a pallet network, multi-drop, haulage, or time-critical distribution environment.
- Experience using NetSuite.
