PURPOSE
The Head of Logistics Operations North / South is responsible for operational coordination and performance of the logistics function across the relevant Regions and Clusters. The focus is on own fleet performance, 3PL performance, and management across their network in delivering the full service from vehicle loading to safe and efficient delivery/collection to/from the customer.
A strong leader and team coach, the Head of Logistics North/South fosters a high-performance culture by guiding and developing team members, setting clear expectations, and promoting continuous improvement. The role focuses on operational management and so the individual will require strong teamworking skills to work in conjunction with the National Head of Logistics Planning and the National Fleet Manager who hold key responsibilities and budgetary control of their areas.
As well as working closely with other members of the National Logistics Team, the role requires a positive engagement with other key stakeholders in the business to provide a seamless service to the customer. This will include building relationships with the Regional and Service Centre operations teams, Supply Chain and Planning Teams as well as the Commercial and customer teams.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety & Compliance
- Manage H&S/Compliance across their area utilizing audits and compliance checks to ensure adherence to all relevant regulations and internal standards (LOLER, HSE, MOT, PMIs, RAMS) across the network
- Liaise with the Logistics Managers and Fleet Manager to ensure accurate completion and timely resolution of defect reports, maintenance scheduling, and risk assessments
- Lead health & safety initiatives, including incident reviews and subsequent roll out of improvement plans
- Maintain oversight of fleet and subcontractor performance, escalating non-compliance or persistent issues
People
- Manage team performance through structured 1:1 reviews, training, and development plans. Support team development
- Develop and oversee resource plans, attendance, and performance to ensure compliance and a positive working environment where success is celebrated
- Maintain stakeholder communication, and escalation management to ensure smooth internal and external engagement

Operational Management
- Lead Day to Day logistics execution across the regional distribution flows, managing exceptions, disruptions, and escalations in real time
- Ensure delivery performance meets agreed service levels (i.e. OTIF)
- Track and report logistics KPI’s including costs, identifying and developing plans to improve / recover performance against target
- 3PL management against KPI’s and SLA’s
- Ensure data system compliance and adherence across the network (i.e. Insphire)
- Lead abort and escalation handling processes, ensuring timely communication and resolution with internal teams and customers
- Implement and lead team meetings/calls to review performance, delivery against KPI’s and planning
- Develop weekly engagement structures with other departments to ensure the targets and aims of the Logistics Plans and business align and move forward
- Monitor logistics cost drivers within operations, supporting cost reduction initiatives through performance improvement
