Head of Machine Learning & AI

Location: London, UK (Hybrid)
Role Type: Permanent
Compensation: £150,000 + 30% Bonus + Executive Benefits

We are partnering with a market-leading digital enterprise on a mission to deliver personalised, seamlessly connected digital retail experiences at global scale. Powered by proprietary tech, brilliant products, and a customer-first approach, their platform turns millions of everyday interactions into memorable customer moments.

They are seeking a Head of Machine Learning & AI to define and lead how advanced ML, search, personalisation, and modern AI drive customer experience and commercial performance across their primary business verticals.

This leadership role sits within the Product, Data & Technology (PDT) organisation, focusing on building and scaling high-throughput, production-grade machine learning systems. From dynamic recommendations and product ranking to search optimisation and Generative AI applications, your vision will directly shape how millions of active users engage with the brand.

What You’ll Do

  • Strategic Leadership: Define the vision and long-term strategy for ML & AI, identifying high-value opportunities to boost customer engagement, conversion, and commercial performance.
  • Team Direction: Lead, mentor, and scale a high-performing team of machine learning specialists, taking full ownership of model performance, quality, and production lifecycles.
  • Applied AI Integration: Guide the application of cutting-edge AI technologies—including Generative AI, LLMs, and modern deep learning models—into scalable, high-impact production environments.
  • Cross-Functional Influence: Serve as a core member of the PDT leadership team, directly influencing roadmap decisions, investment priorities, and executive strategy as the authoritative voice on AI/ML.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven track record in a senior leadership role driving ML and AI initiatives within a scale-up or enterprise digital/e-commerce environment.
  • Deep hands-on background in applied production systems: machine learning engineering, recommendation engines, ranking algorithms, and personalisation architectures.
  • Clear expertise leveraging Generative AI and LLMs to solve practical business and operational challenges.
  • Exceptional executive communication skills, with a track record of bridging technical data science strategy with commercial impact.
