The Opportunity

Andesite Partners has been exclusively retained by an exceptional European mid-market private equity investor to lead the appointment of a Head of M&A/ Corporate Development for its latest platform investment and buy-and-build strategy. The group operates across specialist technical and outsourced services supporting customers in critical industrial, infrastructure and asset-intensive markets. Its activities span complementary areas including technical inspection and assurance, asset integrity, engineering-led services, specialist maintenance and repair, asset protection, technology-enabled field services and complex operational delivery.

The strategy is to build a scaled, high-quality technical services group through a combination of organic growth and disciplined acquisition. The immediate focus is on developing significant scale across the UK, bringing together high-quality specialist businesses with strong management teams, technical capabilities and defensible customer relationships. Over time, the ambition is to selectively broaden the platform across wider European markets.

This appointment represents the first dedicated senior M&A hire into the platform and the number-one M&A seat within the group. The successful individual will have a genuine opportunity to shape the acquisition strategy, establish the M&A capability and play a central role in building the business alongside the management team and private equity sponsor. We are looking for someone who can identify exceptional businesses, build relationships with their owners and convert opportunities into completed transactions.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The Role

Working closely with senior management, the Board and private equity sponsor, you will take ownership of the acquisition agenda.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Shape the acquisition strategy and priority areas for investment
  • Build and develop the acquisition universe
  • Originate opportunities and engage directly with founders and shareholders
  • Lead valuation, financial analysis and transaction structuring
  • Run diligence and manage external advisers
  • Negotiate transactions through signing and completion
  • Support integration and value creation post-acquisition
  • Build the M&A capability and, over time, a broader team

This is a genuine end-to-end role with significant autonomy and direct access to senior decision-makers.

Requirements

We are looking for someone with:

  • A strong track record of executing acquisitions
  • Genuine end-to-end transaction experience

Origination is valuable, but execution and conversion are the key hiring criteria. Specific subsector experience is attractive but not essential. Proven buy-and-build experience and the ability to transact with owner-managed businesses matter more.

Candidate Backgrounds

We are open-minded on background, but likely profiles include:

  • Head of M&A / Head of Corporate Development
  • Corporate Development Director / M&A Director
  • Senior number two ready to step into their first leadership role
  • Industrial, infrastructure or business-services investment banker with genuine deal ownership
  • Lower-mid-market private equity professional looking to move into an operating platform

Unfortunately, visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Candidates must therefore already have the unrestricted right to work in the UK, for example through British citizenship, settled status or indefinite leave to remain.
