Head of Maintenance

The University of Leicester is seeking to appoint a Head of Maintenance to lead the strategic management, compliance, condition assessment, and maintenance of a diverse and complex estate, ensuring a safe, sustainable, and high-performing environment for students, staff, and visitors.

About the University

Role Overview

As Head of Maintenance within Estates and Campus Services, you will take ownership of estate condition, compliance, and fixed infrastructure maintenance across the University's extensive property portfolio. Leading a multidisciplinary team of surveyors, engineers, technicians, tradespeople, and support staff, you will be responsible for developing and delivering proactive maintenance strategies, long-term investment plans, and reactive maintenance services that ensure the estate remains safe, compliant, and fit for purpose.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage maintenance budgets in excess of £10m per annum.
  • Oversee condition surveys and asset management programmes across more than 250 buildings.

  • Ensure full compliance with statutory and legislative requirements across the estate.
  • Drive continuous improvement in maintenance planning, performance management, and service delivery.
  • Oversee planned preventative maintenance programmes.
  • Manage specialist consultants and contractors.
  • Provide regular reporting on estate condition and compliance to senior stakeholders.
  • Play a leading role in the University's digital transformation agenda.
  • Develop integrated asset and maintenance management systems.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
