Head of Maintenance & Facilities

Salary: £60,000 - £65,000
Location: Stroud
Working Hours: Monday – Friday / 7.45am – 4.30pm

Role Purpose

We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Head of Maintenance & Facilities with a strong electrical engineering background to lead all maintenance, engineering, and facilities activities across multiple sites.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of all buildings, infrastructure, electrical systems, plant, and equipment. They will provide strategic leadership to maintenance teams, manage contractors and budgets, and drive continuous improvement initiatives that support business performance and growth.

This leadership role requires a strong technical understanding of electrical systems, building services, regulatory compliance, and asset management.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

  • Lead and develop maintenance and facilities teams across multiple sites.
  • Create a culture of safety, accountability, customer service, and continuous improvement.
  • Set performance objectives and monitor team effectiveness.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to site managers and engineers.

Maintenance & Engineering

  • Develop and implement maintenance strategies to maximise asset reliability and minimise downtime.
  • Oversee all planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities.
  • Ensure all plant, equipment, electrical infrastructure, and building services are maintained to the highest standards.
  • Lead root cause investigations and corrective action plans following equipment failures.

Facilities Management

  • Ensure all company facilities are safe, compliant, well-maintained, and fit for purpose.
  • Manage building fabric, HVAC systems, security systems, utilities, and general site services.
  • Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency, sustainability, and operational performance.
  • Develop long-term asset replacement and investment plans.

Compliance, Health & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with all statutory, regulatory, and company requirements.
  • Lead health and safety initiatives across maintenance and facilities operations.
  • Manage risk assessments, audits, inspections, and corrective actions.
  • Ensure contractor compliance and permit-to-work procedures are effectively implemented.
  • Maintain all maintenance and compliance records.

Contractor & Supplier Management

  • Manage external contractors, service providers, and specialist engineers.
  • Negotiate service agreements and support procurement activities.
  • Monitor service delivery and contractor performance against agreed KPIs.
  • Ensure value for money and high-quality service delivery.

Experience

  • Extensive experience in a senior maintenance, engineering, or facilities management role.
  • Proven experience managing maintenance and facilities operations across multiple sites.
  • Strong electrical engineering background (Desired) gained within industrial, manufacturing, commercial, or similar environments.
  • Experience managing teams, contractors, and outsourced service providers.
  • Experience managing budgets and capital projects.

Desired Qualifications (But not essential)

  • HNC, HND, Degree, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety legislation and statutory compliance.
  • IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH Certificate.
