Head of Major Projects £700 to £750 PD | Inside IR35 | 3–6 Months

Location: Morden, South London

Working Arrangement: Hybrid – 3 days per week onsite

Intec Select has been engaged by a large government-backed enterprise organisation undergoing an ambitious period of transformation and significant investment across its property and major-projects portfolio.

We are seeking an experienced Head of Major Projects to provide strategic leadership across a substantial programme of high-value capital, refurbishment, planned maintenance and decarbonisation projects.

This represents an exciting opportunity to join an organisation during a period of considerable change, with the successful individual playing a central role in shaping and delivering a major programme of transformation.

The Role

Reporting directly into the Director of Property & Major Projects, you will provide strategic leadership across a portfolio with £25m–£30m budget responsibility, managing Project Managers and external contractors.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing strategic leadership across major capital and revenue programmes.
  • Leading planned maintenance, refurbishment, decarbonisation and major capital projects.
  • Managing and developing a team of Project Managers.
  • Providing oversight of projects from business case and inception through procurement, delivery and completion.
  • Leading project governance, financial management, risk and programme assurance.
  • Managing high-value procurement and contractual arrangements.
  • Ensuring programmes are delivered to time, cost, quality and health & safety requirements.
  • Reporting programme performance to Directors, Executive leadership and corporate boards.
  • Managing senior relationships with internal clients, contractors and delivery partners.
  • Advising senior officers and other key stakeholders on major-project delivery.
  • Driving improvements in project and programme management capability.
  • Deputising for the Director of Property & Major Projects when required.

Experience Required

We are looking for a senior major-projects professional with:

  • A significant track record of leading complex, high-value capital and built-environment programmes.
  • Extensive experience taking projects from concept through design, procurement and construction to completion.
  • Strong knowledge of refurbishment and construction delivery.
  • Excellent programme-management, governance and commercial capability.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary internal teams, consultants and contractors.
  • Strong budget-management and financial-control experience.
  • The ability to operate credibly with Directors, senior officers and other executive-level stakeholders.
  • Previous local government or wider public-sector major-project experience would be highly advantageous.
  • RICS, CIOB, RIBA or similar professional membership/qualification would be desirable.
