Head of Marketing, based in Falmouth with travel to Group sites
Are you a practical, commercially minded Head of Marketing who thrives when leading day-to-day marketing activity? If you are, this is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can bring structure, pace and creativity to a fast-moving, engineering-led business.
You will help turn our commercial ambition into clear, consistent and effective marketing activity across campaigns, content, digital communications, events, sales support and brand delivery.

Balaena is one of the UK’s most ambitious maritime groups, with operations spanning Gibraltar, Padstow, Tyne, Birkenhead and Falmouth. You will be joining at a time of real growth and change, helping shape how the business presents itself to customers, partners, employees and the wider market.
What you will be doing?
With our Chief Marketing Officer, you will bring strategic insight and leadership to organise, create and bring your commercial minds together as trusted partners helping to shape the direction of the business.
- Delivering the Group marketing strategy developed alongside our Chief Marketing Officer.
- Leading the day-to-day marketing function and managing our two Marketing Executives.
- Planning and delivering campaigns across digital, print, PR, advertising, exhibitions and events.
- Supporting Sales and Business Development with presentations, collateral, case studies, bid materials and customer communications.
- Protecting and applying our One Balaena brand consistently across marketing activity, working closely with our Head of Brand.
- Managing external agencies and suppliers to deliver high-quality work on time, on budget and to brief.
- Overseeing website content, social media, email marketing, online advertising and digital campaign activity.
- Monitoring performance, reporting against agreed KPIs and recommending practical improvements.

You will work closely with our senior leaders, sales, operations, suppliers and our wider marketing team to make sure activity is targeted, measured and genuinely useful to the business.
What do we want to see in you?
- Significant marketing management experience, ideally in a B2B environment.
- Experience leading, developing and prioritising the work of a marketing team.
- Strong campaign delivery experience across digital, content, PR, events and sales support.
- Commercial awareness and the ability to focus effort on activity that supports growth.
- Excellent organisation and project management skills, with the confidence to manage multiple priorities.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the credibility to work across senior leadership, sales, operations and external agencies.
- A practical, resilient and collaborative style — able to challenge, improve and deliver without overcomplicating things.
- Experience in engineering, maritime, defence, infrastructure or another technical B2B environment would be useful, but attitude and judgement matter just as much.
