About the role

As we scale our client base of financial institutions across the UK, US and Asia-Pacific, we are looking for an experienced, commercially minded Head of Marketing to build and own Hyperlayer’s marketing function.

The marketing function today is a fractional CMO, one Growth Marketing Manager and one Business Development Representative. It will grow, with several more marketing roles in the pipeline for 2026. You will report to the Chief Commercial Officer and work closely with regional and vertical sales leads, each of whom runs their own named-account pipeline as a mini-P&L.

Hyperlayer’s go-to-market model is deliberately account-based, not volume-based: every marketing activity is built around named accounts and tagged to a specific vertical sales pod before it launches. This is not a role for someone looking to run broad demand-generation campaigns or own funnel metrics independently. Success here is measured by the pipeline and named-account penetration you help sales pods create.

Builder, not broker

For at least the first twelve months, this is a building role, not a managing role. You are the marketing function as much as you are its leader. You will write the words, build the pages, brief the analysts and run the moments yourself. If your instinct on picking up a brief is to find an agency, this is the wrong job for you.

In practice:

  • You write the positioning, messaging, website copy, one-pagers and analyst briefing material yourself, first draft to final draft. Not a brief for someone else to write against.
  • You build and ship the assets: landing pages, email sequences, LinkedIn copy, webinar and event decks. You are competent in the CMS, the marketing automation platform and the CRM, and you pull your own numbers.
  • You sit on client and prospect calls, and you take the language you hear there straight back into the copy.
  • You brief analysts personally. No intermediary on a Celent, Chartis, Gartner or Forrester call.
  • You are the interim Product Marketing function until that hire lands, and you will do that work to a standard the sales pods will actually use.
  • You are an events co-ordinator, working with teams to identify and organise the best events to get the pipeline.

Our position on agencies: we buy external suppliers for defined production work with a fixed output, for example design execution, video, wire distribution and event stand build. We do not outsource strategy, positioning, messaging, content or analyst relations.

What you'll do

GTM strategy and vertical enablement

  • Own and evolve the central "kits" model: campaign and content packages built around real frictions banks face today, for example core-system bottlenecks and ungoverned agentic execution, for vertical sales pods to deploy against their own named accounts.
  • Ensure every marketing activity is tagged to a vertical pod and named account before it launches. No bulk cold outreach.
  • Work day to day with regional and vertical sales leads across US Tier 1, Tier 2 and Credit Unions, UK and Europe, and APAC and Middle East, so that marketing activity supports their account plans rather than duplicating or cutting across them.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Analyst relations

  • Build and run the analyst relations programme yourself, securing appropriate validation of client-facing claims before anything is published externally.
  • Set direction on SEO and LLM-discoverability as an emerging channel.
  • Work closely with the Comms team on PR strategy and timing, including aligning releases to client go-lives.

Product marketing

  • Translate the platform’s solution areas, including wallets, loyalty and rewards, lending, disbursements and behavioural data insights, into positioning, messaging and sales content the pods can pick up and use unaided.
  • Work with the BizOps team to create the assets.

Events

  • Curate a selective events calendar, gating attendance on pre-booked meetings and one flagship content moment per event.
  • Manage the events budget with explicit trade-offs, for example funding higher-converting formats by de-prioritising lower-performing ones.

Team building and budget ownership

  • Build the function out from its current base, prioritising the open Vertical Growth Marketing and Product Marketing hires.
  • Hire people who also make the work themselves. We are not building a team of brief-writers.
  • Own the marketing budget and report spend against pipeline created and named-account penetration, rather than volume or brand-awareness metrics.

Governance and compliance

  • Establish a clear sign-off process with Legal for any public reference to named financial institution clients, respecting client-specific contractual restrictions on case studies, testimonials and press.
  • Ensure marketing and product-marketing content, particularly around data-driven personalisation and rewards use cases, complies with data privacy and financial promotion requirements in each market we operate in.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years leading B2B marketing in enterprise, complex-sales environments with long sales cycles of twelve months or more, ideally in fintech, payments or another regulated B2B category. This is not a fit for candidates from consumer or PLG marketing backgrounds.
  • Recent operating experience at a company shaped like ours: a B2B fintech or banking-technology vendor selling platform or infrastructure software to Tier 1 and Tier 2 financial institutions, at roughly Series A to Series C scale, where the marketing team was fewer than five people and you were one of the people producing the work. Think Thought Machine, Mambu, Zafin, Form3, 10x, ClearBank, Personetics, or Backbase and nCino at an earlier stage.
  • Writing as a core, current skill. You will be asked for a piece of external-facing writing you personally produced in the last twelve months.
  • A proven track record running account-based marketing as the primary go-to-market model, supporting named-account sales pods rather than volume-based demand generation.
  • Direct experience building a marketing function from near-zero headcount at a scale-up, including hiring the initial team.
  • Hands-on analyst relations experience, including niche technology analyst firms such as Celent and Chartis alongside Gartner and Forrester. Hands-on means you wrote the briefing and led the call.
  • Comfort operating as an enabler of sales-owned pipeline targets, rather than owning brand or funnel metrics independently.
  • Experience translating technical or platform products into market-facing positioning across multiple solution areas.
  • A track record of budget discipline and ROI-based prioritisation, including examples of reallocating spend from lower to higher-converting activities.
