Newport, South Wales | £60,000 to £75,000 + bonus | Permanent
We are recruiting a Head of Marketing and Business Development for a UK manufacturer in the renewable energy sector, based in Newport, South Wales. This is a senior appointment — a board level hire for a business at a significant point in its commercial development.
The role
This is for a genuine marketing leader who can set strategy and then drive a sales team to deliver against it. The business needs someone who understands how to build a brand, create demand and open markets — and who has the commercial credibility to lead that process from the front rather than hand it off.
You will report directly to the CEO and work closely with the senior leadership team. The role carries real weight and real autonomy.
What you will be doing
- Developing and owning the marketing strategy across B2B and B2C markets, ensuring every activity connects directly to commercial outcomes and revenue growth.
- Leading and directing the sales function, setting the direction and holding the team accountable for delivery against the marketing strategy.
- Building the brand — positioning the business as the technology leader in its field, developing messaging, driving digital presence and creating the collateral the commercial team needs to win.
- Owning digital marketing — website, SEO, LinkedIn, campaigns and lead generation — with a clear focus on pipeline and measurable results.
- Managing partner and distributor marketing, developing co-branded campaigns and joint go-to-market activity that drives sales through the channel.
- Leading the business's presence at key industry events and trade exhibitions and building relationships with sector media and industry bodies.
- Implementing proper marketing infrastructure — CRM integration, analytics, automation and campaign attribution — so the function runs on data not instinct.
- Managing the marketing budget with commercial discipline and reporting to the CEO and board on performance against agreed KPIs.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

A senior marketing professional with genuine commercial instinct and a track record of leading both marketing and sales functions in a technical or engineering led environment. You will need to be credible with a technical product, comfortable presenting at board level and capable of operating with real autonomy in an SME.
You do not need a photovoltaics background but you do need to understand how to market technically complex products to technically informed buyers. A background in renewable energy, engineering, construction, manufacturing or technology would be a significant advantage.
Strong digital marketing credentials are essential. Experience of managing and developing a sales team is important. International market development experience would also be beneficial as the business continues to grow its European and global presence.
