Head of Mechanical and Electrical
With a focus on surpassing service expectations, we are committed to ensuring the safety, comfort, and satisfaction of our residents. As the Head of Mechanical and Electrical, you will be instrumental in leading and managing the strategic delivery of Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) services.
Your leadership in driving positive change will be key to fostering an environment that not only meets but exceeds the expectations of our customers.
Key Responsibilities/Deliverables
Leadership and Management
- Provide effective leadership and management of the M&E team, ensuring the highest standards in customer service are upheld.
- Take overall responsibility for the delivery of M&E services across A2D properties, prioritising customer satisfaction.
Financial Oversight
- Ensure financial oversight of the M&E service, monitoring and controlling expenditure to meet budgets and targets, with a focus on enhancing customer experience.
Investment Planning
- Develop, implement, and monitor short, medium, and long-term investment and management plans for mechanical and electrical equipment and services, always considering the impact on residents' well-being.
- Plan the investment in replacement of mechanical assets, utilising data to inform decisions and improve the overall customer experience.
Contract Management
- Negotiate contracts and effectively manage contractors to ensure all contractual obligations are met, keeping the customer experience in mind.
- Collaborate with other services to maximise the positive impact on the customer experience.
Compliance and Safety
- Take strategic and operational responsibility for ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations for property safety, prioritising the safety and well-being of residents.
- Ensure the M&E team and contractors are compliant with all health and safety regulations to guarantee a positive "safety every time" culture.

Stakeholder Engagement
- Build effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, understanding and incorporating customer feedback.
- Work with residents and management to develop service standards, policies, and procedures that align with customer expectations.
Reporting and Communication
- Provide regular updates and reports to OMT/EMT on M&E and compliance activities, performance metrics, and key issues, with a focus on transparency and customer-centric communication.
- Communicate complex technical issues clearly and persuasively to both technical and non-technical audiences, ensuring residents are well-informed.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, And Competencies
- Level 5/6 qualification in an M&E related discipline or equivalent appropriate M&E experience.
- Relevant professional membership (e.g., CIOB, RICS, CIHCM).
- IOSH Managing Safely or similar.
- Significant M&E Contract & Project management experience.
- Substantial experience in property-related M&E function at a senior level.
- Strong experience of leading a high performing team
- Effective networking, negotiation, and influencing skills.
- Thorough understanding of Building Safety, M&E, and related areas.
- Excellent leadership and motivation skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent IT skills including databases and Microsoft packages.
- Full UK driving license and access to a car.
