Head of Membership

Professional Membership Organisation

Salary: £40,000–£50,000 depending on experience

Location: Predominantly home based, with attendance at the Harpenden, Hertfordshire office approximately twice per month.

Permanent, Full Time

Membership Bespoke is recruiting for a Head of Membership on behalf of a leading professional membership organisation. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced membership and engagement professional to take ownership of member experience, engagement, retention and growth.

The Role

Working closely with the Managing Director and as part of the Senior Leadership Team, you will lead the membership function and help shape how the organisation attracts, engages and delivers greater value for its members.

  • Drive membership growth, retention, renewals and engagement
  • Develop and improve the overall member proposition and experience
  • Create engaging member journeys from onboarding through to renewal and progression
  • Grow professional communities, networking and member participation
  • Develop member events, roundtables, mentoring and engagement programmes
  • Use member feedback, CRM/AMS data and insights to identify improvements
  • Build strong relationships with members, partners, volunteers and suppliers
  • Lead and develop a small Membership Services team
  • Work closely with the MD to identify new ideas and opportunities for membership growth

About You

We are looking for an established membership professional who can hit the ground running and confidently take ownership of the function.

You will ideally have:

  • Strong membership and engagement experience, ideally within a professional body, trade association, institute or similar membership organisation
  • Evidence of improving member engagement, retention, growth or value
  • Experience owning membership rather than purely supporting a membership team
  • A creative, energetic and commercially minded approach
  • Confidence working with senior stakeholders, members and external suppliers
  • Good knowledge of CRM/AMS systems and membership data
  • The ability to work independently and bring forward new ideas

You do not need to be a systems specialist – the priority is finding someone passionate about membership, engagement, growth and delivering an excellent member experience.
