Head of Operational & Enterprise Risk | Fintech | London

I’m supporting a rapidly scaling fintech with the appointment of a Head of Enterprise & Operational Risk, a senior second-line role with significant scope to shape how risk operates as the business grows.

This isn’t an environment where everything is already built and the job is simply to maintain it. The business is growing quickly, priorities move at pace and the risk function needs to evolve alongside it. They’re looking for someone comfortable operating in an agile, fast-paced fintech, who can bring structure and rigour without creating unnecessary complexity or slowing the business down.

You’ll have regular exposure to the Executive Committee and Board and take ownership of developing and embedding the enterprise and operational risk approach across multiple regulated entities.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The role will include:

  • Evolving and embedding the Enterprise Risk Management Framework
  • Strengthening risk appetite, KRIs, controls and governance
  • Developing the operational risk and incident management approach
  • Enhancing GRC capability and how risk information is captured and used
  • Delivering clear, commercially relevant risk reporting to ExCo and Board
  • Leading operational risk scenario analysis supporting capital assessments
  • Providing effective second-line oversight across areas including operational, fraud and cyber risk
  • Partnering with senior leaders while providing credible and constructive challenge

What they’re looking for:

You’ll have strong Enterprise and Operational Risk experience within regulated financial services, ideally gained within a fintech, payments business, challenger bank or another high-growth environment. Crucially, you’ll have experience building, improving or transforming risk frameworks, rather than solely operating within mature structures. You’ll need to be comfortable with ambiguity, changing priorities and making pragmatic decisions at pace. This is a business where things move quickly, so they need someone who can adapt with it while maintaining appropriate risk discipline. You’ll also bring strong experience across risk appetite, controls, governance, Board reporting and operational risk scenario analysis, alongside the credibility to influence senior stakeholders.
