Head of Operational Excellence

About Us

Brightwell is a comprehensive service provider to UK defined benefit (DB) pension schemes. We have deep expertise in the market as a result of our long history of managing services for one of the UK’s largest private sector defined benefit pension schemes - the BT Pension Scheme (BTPS). In April 2023, Brightwell opened its capabilities to other DB schemes and since then has been appointed fiduciary manager for the DB section of the EE Pension Scheme, administrator for the Mineworkers’ Pension Scheme (MPS), and has entered into partnerships with two major DB pensions insurers - Rothesay & Pensions Insurance Corporation (PIC). Our approach is based on partnership – collectively owning problems, sharing solutions and collaborating for the long-term.

About the Role

As the Head of Operational Excellence you will lead the evolution of operational excellence across Brightwell's Member Services function, taking a holistic view of how services are delivered across the end-to-end value chain. This is not simply a process improvement role, it requires someone who can understand the interaction between people, processes, technology and member outcomes, identifying opportunities to create meaningful and sustainable change.

Reporting to the Head of Member Services Operations, this is a brand new role and a highly visible leadership position responsible for creating and embedding a culture of continuous improvement, service excellence and operational effectiveness across a complex, regulated pensions environment. Working across both front-office and back-office operations, you will assess how services are delivered, challenge existing ways of working and drive improvements that enhance efficiency, quality and member experience. You will play a key role in shaping how emerging technologies, automation and AI can be leveraged to optimise operations, simplify processes and support future growth.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
