Head of Operations
6-Month Contract | Day Rate or Fixed-Term PAYE
London – hybrid working

The Opportunity
We are working with a leading energy business to recruit an experienced Head of Operations for an initial 6-month contract, available on either a day-rate or fixed-term PAYE basis.
The role will lead the end-to-end billing and metering function, ensuring accurate, timely and compliant customer billing while driving operational performance, efficiency and customer outcomes.
You will lead a high-performing team, manage key third-party relationships and oversee metering operations, billing systems and industry processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end billing and metering operations, ensuring accurate and compliant customer billing.
- Oversee the billing lifecycle, including meter reads, data validation, bill production, adjustments and exceptions.
- Lead smart and traditional metering operations, ensuring data accuracy and system integrity.
- Drive improvements in bill accuracy, first-time bill quality, rebill reduction and customer experience.
- Lead, coach and develop Operations Managers.
- Oversee third-party contracts, suppliers, contractors and SLAs.
- Drive process improvement and automation to increase efficiency and reduce cost to serve.
- Lead root cause analysis and resolution of billing and system issues.
- Provide senior leadership with regular reporting on performance, risks and improvement activity.

About You
You will ideally have:
- Significant experience leading operations within an energy supplier.
- Strong end-to-end knowledge of energy billing and metering operations.
- Experience leading teams through operational change and improvement.
- Strong knowledge of smart metering, Ofgem requirements and industry codes, including DCC and SEC.
- Experience managing significant third-party contracts and commercial relationships.
- Strong data analysis, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience managing KPIs including bill accuracy, meter reads, commissioning, installations, backlog and SLA performance.
- A strong customer focus and track record of delivering operational improvements.
