Where will you be working?

We help our clients safeguard the water supply, improve environmental performance and manage demand for future generations. We enhance and extend asset life, ensuring compliance with water quality and environmental standards. We’re problem solvers with over 140 years of combined experience in engineering and infrastructure.

The North West is a key development area, the successful candidate will be based within our Preston Office, but the role will cover the entire North West region, supporting our progression and partnership with United Utilities.

What will you be doing?

As the Head of Operations you’ll be the trusted professional support and lead to the Operational Delivery of our United Utilities Contract. Reporting directly to the Contract Director the successful candidate will lead on the operational delivery of contracts, and support the strategic delivery and performance of the contract to world-class standards. The person will execute the delivery of the vision and objectives aligned with M Group Water strategy, ensuring safety, quality, and employee engagement.

  • Lead on the day to day management of Operations and work streams for United Utilities, across the north West Region.
  • Line Manager and inspire project leads and Programme Managers to grow and develop work streams in an efficient, effective and safe way.
  • Support and present Contract Reviews and ensure all delivery and operational information available to the Contract Director.
  • Innovation - North lead to drive innovation more with our clients, developing and supporting ideas for ground breaking technology and service delivery solutions.

What You’ll Bring

We value you for who you are and will provide appropriate formal training and development. However, we will look favourably if you can demonstrate:

  • Experience within the Water Sector, managing multiple priorities and work streams
  • A degree or equivalent qualification in construction, engineering, utilities, or a business-related discipline (desirable)
  • Relevant management or professional qualifications
  • Previous experience in senior management within a utility contracting or similar environment
  • Strong commercial experience with a proven ability to drive improvement
  • A consistent track record of senior management success in utility contracting or related sectors
  • Demonstrable client management and business development skills
  • Excellent leadership capabilities, including coaching and mentoring
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and present ideas effectively at senior levels
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of SHEQW policies, procedures, and management
  • Strong commercial and sector awareness
  • Understanding of statutory frameworks, including contracting law, SHEQ, and employment law
