Role Purpose
To oversee the day-to-day operations of the business using an active, hands-on approach, whilst providing technical guidance and leadership to internal and external teams.
- To coordinate operational matters including Quality, Finance, HR, and Customer Service to ensure smooth and assured execution.
- To develop infrastructure, processes, and networks that support company growth.
- Lead and manage the planning and execution of company operations.
- To provide programme management to key projects.
Role Type
Full Time in Cambridge, UK. Verinnogen is not providing visa sponsorship for this role.
Company Description
Verinnogen is a scaling life-science startup organisation based in Cambridge, UK. We are currently developing a novel technology that improves the way that cancer therapies are assessed before they are translated to human clinical trials. The technology uses a novel, contact-based surface profiling tool integrating an array of moveable pins, that transforms the way we interact with, understand, and measure physical objects such as subcutaneous tumours and other biological tissues.
Founded in 2021, the private company was started by co-founders Dr Isaac Johnson and Dr Mike Irvine to address the problem of error-prone calliper measurements in pre-clinical cancer research. Since then, the validity of the pin array approach has been qualified using in silico modelling, through a proof-of-concept prototype, and via multiple evaluations using a collection of functional and Beta prototype systems.
Verinnogen is uniquely positioned to disrupt both the pre-clinical and medical fields, becoming creative leaders in the application of physical surface profiling. Digitising a 3D profile from an array of pins in a simple and quick way has been made possible through our patented platform and combined with the clear need for better profile measurements in pre-clinical cancer research, will allow Verinnogen to establish itself as a problem-focused, high potential, and technology-rich company. Furthermore, the physical 3D profiling technology that has been developed will serve as a platform by which to integrate additional measurements and features amenable to a contact-based approach.

Opportunity
The company is seeking a technically competent HOO to join our team. The company is scaling for commercial activities. With a highly engineered technology, it is important that the HOO can directly or indirectly support and lead the Product Development, Operations, and Quality teams.
The role is ideal for a proactive team player who enjoys taking ownership in a fast moving, agile environment. It will suit someone who is happy in a small and expanding team, who embraces the wide variety of challenges that exist in enthusiastic, young, growing organisations.

The HOO will ideally have an engineering / technology background coupled with 10+ years of experience working in the life-sciences. Supply-chain and Quality management are important parameters.
The HOO will report directly to the CEO.
Duties and Responsibilities
This is an exciting opportunity to lead scale-up operations associated with a novel life-sciences technology in the cancer research space. Duties and responsibilities include:
- Managing, developing, and implementing technology and operational strategies that support and drive business growth and innovation.
- Ensuring that business operations and administration remain efficient and effective, with a focus on operational improvements.
- Leading technical, quality, and operations teams to deliver high quality products, that meet organisational goals/objectives, and which provide customer success.
- Mentoring and inspiring team members to identify with corporate vision / culture and to minimise unwanted staff turnover.
- Setting corporate strategic goals and translating these into departmental / individual objectives. Monitoring and managing progress towards these objectives.
- Ensuring that products and operations comply with relevant laws, regulations, and safety standards.
- Generating and using data / analytics with risk management to inform technology and operational decision making.
- Growing and maintaining relationships with Development and Operational partners – including travel when appropriate.
- Management of supply-chains and associated contracts / relationships.
- Adhering at all times to Verinnogen’s Quality Management System and ensuring that products meet relevant regulatory requirements.
- Other duties as required by the business.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
A successful candidate will have the following experience and character traits:
- Strong written and verbal communications.
- Strong team leadership with resilience.
- Strong organisational skills.
- Experience with the manufacture of scientific / healthcare instrumentation (hardware, software, and consumables) – preferably in the life-sciences.
- Scientific / engineering qualification (preferably to degree level).
- Resourceful problem-solving skills.
- Experience of senior management roles.
- Understanding of corporate and operational structure.
- Competence with MS Office and Xero.
- Experience of data analysis, financial analysis, and budgeting.
- Enthusiasm, pragmatism, and tenacity.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
- Familiarity with the design, development, and testing of scientific / healthcare instrumentation (hardware, software, and consumables).
- Development and Operational practical experience in the life-science tools / instrument space.
- Experience of Operational growth and change.
- Corporate risk assessment and management.
- Full Drivers Licence.
Compensation and Benefits
The HOO is a key role in an enterprising, fast-paced, and scaling organisation.
Compensation includes a salary of up to £90k and an equity package that reflects the exciting nature of the opportunity.
