Head of Operations & Chief of Staff
Location: Flexible UK (regular travel required)
Reporting to: Nick Mothershaw, CEO
Type: Full-time
About Select ID
Select ID is building the UK's reusable digital identity network, enabling trusted digital verification between Identity Providers and Relying Parties through a secure, interoperable and scalable scheme. Working with major financial institutions, technology partners and industry stakeholders, Select ID sits at the centre of one of the UK's most significant digital infrastructure opportunities.
We are at an exciting stage of our journey. Having secured strategic backing from leading UK banking groups, our focus is now on commercial growth, market adoption and scaling the organisation for the next phase.
The Opportunity
This is not a traditional operations role.
We are looking for someone who wants to be the CEO's right-hand person: part Chief of Staff, part Head of Operations, part business builder.
You will work directly alongside the CEO to help turn strategy into execution, ensuring the business runs smoothly while supporting fundraising, governance, finance, commercial delivery, recruitment, and stakeholder management.
One hour you may be supporting a board meeting, the next helping close a customer opportunity, reviewing budgets, coordinating key projects, improving reporting, or solving an operational problem.
This role would suit somebody who thrives in ambiguity, enjoys wearing multiple hats, and gains energy from helping a high-growth business succeed.
Key Responsibilities
CEO & Strategic Support
- Act as a trusted partner to the CEO on strategic and operational priorities
- Drive follow-up and execution of key initiatives
- Prepare board packs, investor updates, and management reporting
- Track actions arising from board and leadership meetings
- Support business planning, budgeting, and strategic projects
- Provide insight and challenge to improve decision making

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
