Head of Operations and Maintenance
Fortress Recruit is supporting a specialist engineering organisation with the appointment of a Head of Operations and Maintenance.
This is a senior leadership position responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the infrastructure, engineering systems, maintenance and facilities that support their specialist environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Plant Operations & Maintenance, Facilities, HSE and Systems functions
- Oversee the safe and reliable operation of critical engineering systems and site infrastructure
- Develop maintenance and asset management strategies to improve reliability and availability
- Lead contractor management across engineering, maintenance, facilities and infrastructure works
- Ensure appropriate compliance with CDM requirements and provide operational input throughout relevant RIBA stages
- Oversee major maintenance programmes, shutdowns, upgrades and commissioning activities
- Identify asset replacement and capital investment requirements
- Develop operational KPIs and drive continuous improvement
- Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team of around 35 people

Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- An engineering or related degree or equivalent qualification
- Significant senior leadership experience within a complex engineering environment
- Experience at Head of Operations, or similar level
- Experience leading multiple operational disciplines rather than solely production or maintenance
- Strong experience across engineering infrastructure, maintenance, asset management and reliability
- Proven contractor management experience
- Good working knowledge of CDM and ideally experience working through RIBA stages
- Experience managing technically complex or high hazard environments
- A track record of continuous improvement, operational improvement and developing team accountability

Experience within nuclear, energy, power generation, process, aerospace, defence, marine, utilities, heavy engineering or advanced manufacturing would be highly relevant.
Location and Security Clearance
This is a site-based role in Bedford, reporting directly to the CEO and forming part of the Senior Leadership Team. This is an opportunity to take a broad operational remit within a highly specialised engineering organisation, with significant scope to improve asset reliability, infrastructure, operational performance and team culture.
Due to the nature of this role, this is a UK Eyes Only position requiring eligibility to obtain SC clearance.
