About RoSPA

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) is a safety charity that has worked for over 100 years to prevent accidents and create a safer society. The organization has developed a global influence while working toward its vision of an accident-free world.

The Role

The Head of People will lead and develop RoSPA’s people strategy, ensuring it supports organizational objectives while fostering a positive, high-performing, and inclusive culture.

The role is part of the Senior Leadership Team and provides both strategic and operational leadership across the employee lifecycle, including people management, organizational development, employee engagement, and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

People Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and implement People strategies aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership across the employee lifecycle.
  • Advise and influence senior leaders and leadership teams.
  • Support organizational development and continuous improvement.
  • Lead people initiatives that strengthen employee engagement and organizational culture.

Employee Relations

  • Provide guidance on disciplinary, grievance, performance, capability, and absence matters.
  • Support complex people issues with a resilient and solutions-focused approach.
  • Ensure compliance with employment legislation and HR best practice.

Organizational Development & Change

  • Lead organizational change, transformation programs, and restructures.
  • Support workforce planning, talent acquisition, and succession planning.
  • Develop culture and engagement initiatives.
  • Support organizational growth and transformation programs.

Reward, Payroll & People Data

  • Oversee payroll and pension administration.
  • Develop reward and recognition approaches, including salary benchmarking.
  • Use people data and insights to support organizational decision-making.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop the People function.
  • Build an inclusive, high-performing workplace culture.
  • Provide strong leadership and continuous professional development for the team.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience in a senior HR or People leadership role.
  • Proven experience developing and implementing People strategies.
  • Experience advising senior leaders, executives, and leadership teams.
  • Strong expertise in employee relations.
  • Strong knowledge of employment legislation and HR best practice.
  • Experience with workforce planning, talent acquisition, and succession planning.
  • Experience managing payroll and pension administration.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to use people data to support decision-making.
  • Experience developing reward and recognition approaches, including salary benchmarking.
  • Excellent leadership, coaching, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Chartered Member or Chartered Fellow of the CIPD (Level 7 or equivalent).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience within the charity, not-for-profit, or membership sector.
  • Experience leading culture and engagement initiatives.
  • Experience supporting organizational growth and transformation programs.

Compensation

  • £36,000 per annum for 30 hours per week (£42,000 FTE).
  • Salary increase after probation.
