Head of People Operations
Location: Peterborough Support Hub, with travel to our homes in Nottingham and surrounding areas
Contract: Full-time, permanent
Reports to: Director of People Services
About Fortava
Fortava provides residential and nursing care. As we grow, we’re developing a People service that gives our colleagues and managers practical, responsive support.
We’re looking for an experienced Head of People Operations to lead the day-to-day delivery of that service. You’ll manage and develop our People Advisors, work closely with operational leaders and help build the processes and systems needed to support a growing workforce.
What you’ll do
- Lead the operational People function, setting clear priorities and standards for the team.
- Provide expert guidance on complex employee relations matters, including disciplinary, grievance, absence and performance cases.
- Coach managers to handle People matters fairly, confidently and consistently.
- Improve policies, employment processes and records, supporting legal compliance and the requirements of a regulated care environment.
- Oversee safer recruitment and onboarding processes, and support workforce planning, recruitment and retention.
- Use People data and colleague feedback to identify risks and improve the colleague experience.
- Lead operational People projects and support organisational growth and change.

You’ll work closely with the Director of People Services, who retains responsibility for strategic People leadership and organisational development.
What you’ll bring
- Significant experience in a senior HR or People role.
- Strong practical employee relations experience and knowledge of UK employment law.
- Experience managing and developing HR professionals.
- Confidence working with operational managers and senior leaders.
- A pragmatic approach, sound judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Strong communication, relationship-building and organisational skills.

Experience in healthcare, social care or another regulated environment would be particularly useful. CIPD membership or a relevant HR qualification, experience across multiple sites, and experience improving HR systems or supporting organisational growth are desirable.
