Head of Platform Engineering
Location: London
Working Model: Hybrid
Salary: £140,000 – £150,000 + 20% Bonus
We're working with a growing financial services business looking for a Head of Platform Engineering to take ownership of the cloud and platform technology underpinning its products and services.
This is a senior leadership position, but definitely not one for someone who wants to move completely away from technology.
You'll lead the Platform Engineering function while remaining close enough to the technical detail to help shape architecture, challenge decisions and provide direction across a complex cloud environment.
The business is continuing to invest heavily in its technology estate, with a focus on improving scalability, resilience, automation and the overall engineering experience.
What you'll be doing
- Leading and developing a team across Platform, Cloud and DevOps Engineering
- Owning the strategy and technical direction across AWS and Azure
- Driving improvements across cloud architecture, infrastructure, automation and reliability
- Developing the use of Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD and engineering automation
- Working closely with engineering teams to improve developer experience and remove friction from software delivery
- Overseeing integrations between internal platforms, applications and third-party technology
- Improving observability, resilience, disaster recovery and operational readiness
- Ensuring security, governance and regulatory requirements are embedded across the platform
- Working closely with Engineering, Architecture, Security, Product and senior technology leadership
- Establishing engineering standards and best practices across the wider technology function
- Assessing new technologies and platform capabilities as the organisation continues to modernise

What we're looking for
We're interested in speaking with senior Platform Engineering leaders who have worked within complex technology environments.
You'll ideally bring experience across:
- Leadership of Platform Engineering, Cloud, DevOps or SRE teams
- Strong technical foundations across AWS and/or Azure
- Modern cloud architecture and platform design
- Infrastructure as Code, ideally Terraform
- CI/CD and software delivery automation
- Containers and modern application infrastructure
- Observability, monitoring and production reliability
- Cloud security, governance and operational controls
- APIs, integrations and distributed systems
- Working within banking, fintech, payments or another regulated environment

You'll need to be comfortable operating at both levels: setting direction with senior stakeholders while still being able to get into the technical detail with engineers when required.

You'll have the opportunity to shape the platform roadmap, develop the team and influence how the organisation approaches cloud, reliability, automation and engineering standards as it continues to grow.
Salary: £140,000 – £150,000
Bonus: Up to 20%
