Head of Portfolio & Planning

Location: London, UK

Salary: £110,000 plus benefits

What You’ll Do

You will own how Threecolts plans, prioritises, and tracks the work that matters most across the company, creating a clear view of what is in flight, how it connects to company goals, and where we need to make harder trade-offs.

Reporting directly to the CEO, you’ll run the company planning and goal-setting cycle end to end, translating company priorities into clear, measurable objectives across teams and creating the operating rhythm that keeps progress visible throughout the year.

You’ll maintain a single, trusted view of significant initiatives across the business, including ownership, progress, dependencies, risks, and alignment to company goals. You’ll surface slippage early, distinguish between execution problems and poorly designed goals, and make sure leadership has the information needed to intervene before issues become quarter-end surprises.

A core part of the role is portfolio prioritisation. You’ll design and run the process through which new initiatives enter the business, making capacity, dependencies, and trade-offs explicit before work starts. You’ll challenge duplicated or low-value work, identify where the organisation is overcommitted, and create the discipline to stop or defer initiatives that are no longer earning their place.

You’ll also own the company’s executive operating cadence, including business reviews, executive meetings, and the planning and performance content that feeds into board discussions. You’ll turn complex, fragmented information into clear decisions, actions, and accountability.

This is not a role that runs individual projects. Your responsibility is to build and operate the system that helps the company choose the right work, understand how it is progressing, and increase the percentage of important initiatives that actually get completed.

Initially an individual contributor role, there is scope to build a small team as the function develops.

What’s Required

  • 10+ years of experience across Portfolio Management, Enterprise PMO, Programme Management, Strategy & Operations, or related roles in complex, fast-moving organisations
  • Proven experience building and owning company or group-level portfolio management systems, rather than simply maintaining existing project tracking processes
  • Experience running company-wide planning, goal-setting, or OKR cycles end to end, from objective design and cascade through to progress reporting and review
  • Strong experience designing intake, prioritisation, and governance processes for new initiatives
  • Demonstrable ability to make capacity and trade-off decisions visible, including challenging, stopping, or deferring work when organisational bandwidth is exceeded
  • Strong analytical judgement, with the ability to distinguish between poor execution, unrealistic planning, and priorities that have changed
  • Experience identifying cross-functional dependencies, risks, and duplication across multiple teams or business areas
  • Strong executive communication skills, with the ability to turn complex information into concise, decision-ready reporting for senior leadership and boards
  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders without relying on formal authority
  • Experience designing and running effective executive operating cadences, including business reviews, planning sessions, and decision forums
  • Experience operating at comparable organisational scale, ideally within technology, SaaS, or multi-product environments
  • Comfortable building systems and processes from an incomplete starting point in a fast-changing organisation

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What We’re Looking For

  • A highly structured operator who can create clarity across a complex organisation without introducing unnecessary bureaucracy.
  • You naturally look across the business rather than within individual functions. You can see where priorities compete, where dependencies are being missed, and where too much work has been allowed to start at once.
  • You are comfortable challenging senior leaders and making trade-offs visible. You understand that prioritisation is not about creating a better list of initiatives, but making clear choices about what the organisation will and will not do.
  • You combine strong judgement with strong follow-through. You can build the system, run the cadence, surface problems early, and hold leaders accountable for the commitments they have made.
  • You communicate clearly and concisely, particularly at executive level. You can take a messy portfolio of work, conflicting updates, and incomplete information and turn it into a one-page view that makes the decision obvious.
  • Most importantly, you are focused on organisational outcomes rather than process for its own sake. The purpose of the role is not to create more governance. It is to help Threecolts focus on fewer priorities, make better decisions, and complete more of the work that matters.
