Our client is an award-winning specialty chemicals business that designs and manufactures a range of resins and specialist polymers. The company serves a broad range of sectors, including food packaging, construction, renewables, pharmaceuticals, and aerospace. A key technology is coatings.

Job Description

Reporting to the Operations Director, the Head of Product Quality & Development is a new role designed to improve efficiencies of these functions. The position will oversee and manage activities for the R&D lab, QC Lab, and quality control operations, which includes customer success. The role will manage an overall team of 15 via 3 direct reports.

  • You will have a degree, MSc, or PhD in polymer chemistry, materials science, or chemical engineering and ideally experience working in relevant fields, such as the coatings sector.
  • Knowledge of specific chemistries such as epoxy would be helpful but is not essential.
  • You will have solid experience working in a lab (5-10 years envisaged) and subsequently been involved with day-to-day lab management involving budgeting, reporting, and planning as well as managing the activities of chemists/technicians.
  • You may have moved into a customer-facing role such as technical services, interacting with customers, and being responsible for liaising with R&D to ensure client expectations are exceeded.
  • You may also have experience managing the quality function and be a champion of continuous improvement methodologies.
  • You must be an excellent communicator and be someone who likes to take responsibility and ensure deadlines are met.
  • You must also be a good manager who knows how to get the best out of people and work across departments for the overall success of the business.
