Head of Product / Technical Underwriter
Remote (UK)
£75,000 - £125,000 + Bonus + Benefits

The Opportunity
Our client has ambitious plans to launch and scale a new insurance proposition and is seeking an entrepreneurial underwriting professional to play a pivotal role in its development. Whether you're currently operating as a Head of Product, Technical Underwriter, or a highly respected Senior Underwriter looking for a broader strategic remit, this opportunity offers the chance to build something meaningful from the ground up. Created as part of a strategic growth initiative, this is a rare opportunity to help develop a new product, influence underwriting strategy, and shape a profitable portfolio from inception. This role would suit someone who combines strong technical underwriting expertise with commercial flair, broker market credibility and a genuine passion for building profitable books of business.
The Role
Working closely with senior leadership, you will:
- Take full ownership of new product from idea to trading.
- Identify new markets and opportunities to build underwriting proposition.
- Develop business case for new products including year 1-5 financial projections.
- Develop underwriting authority frameworks & work with capacity partners to secure approvals.
- Design policy coverage, risk and compliance + wordings + progress distribution strategy.
- Support portfolio performance after launch and make any necessary adjustments.

Essential Criteria
We're particularly keen to speak with individuals who can demonstrate:
- 5-10+ years of commercial underwriting experience.
- Experience operating as a Head of Underwriting, Senior Technical Underwriter or Senior Underwriter.
- Strong understanding of delegated underwriting authority.
- Proven expertise in portfolio management, exposure management and loss ratio performance.
- Strong commercial distribution knowledge and experience developing broker-led growth strategies.
- Ability to create business plans, revenue forecasts and growth projections.
- Established broker relationships and a strong network across the UK market.
- Excellent presentation, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to identify opportunities and drive profitable growth.
- Commercial credibility to engage with brokers, MGA partners, capacity providers and senior leadership teams.

Experience within one or more of the following areas would be highly advantageous:

Please note: this role is less suited to individuals whose experience has been predominantly focused on Property or Motor classes.
