Calor is looking for an exceptional operational leader to join our leadership team as Head of Production.

This is a high-profile opportunity to take strategic and operational accountability for a complex, geographically dispersed production network, including cylinder filling plants, LPG storage facilities, terminals, and refurbishment operations.

As Head of Production, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of Calor's operations—ensuring we have a safe, resilient, and high-performing production network that can meet the changing needs of our customers and support the long-term strategy of the business.

This is a role for a leader who can combine world-class safety and process safety leadership with operational excellence, asset management, transformation, and commercial delivery.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting into the senior leadership team, you will have overall accountability for the performance of Calor's production footprint.

You will lead a substantial operational organisation and work collaboratively across the wider business to:

  • Set the strategic direction for production and refurbishment operations.
  • Drive industry-leading health, safety, process safety, and environmental performance.
  • Maximise asset utilisation, reliability, and operational productivity.
  • Develop and execute long-term asset and capital investment strategies.
  • Lead transformation and operational excellence across the production network.
  • Strengthen resilience and ensure the network is fit for the future.
  • Build organizational capability and develop a high-performing leadership team.
  • Deliver sustainable improvements in customer service, cost, and shareholder value.

You will have significant influence over how Calor operates today and how its production network evolves for the future.

SAFETY, COMPLIANCE, AND RISK LEADERSHIP

Safety is fundamental to this role.

You will provide visible and decisive leadership across health, safety, security, environmental, and process safety performance, ensuring that critical controls are understood, effective, and consistently applied.

As the COMAH Operator, you will hold accountability for ensuring production assets and facilities operate in accordance with all relevant statutory, regulatory, and company requirements.

You will maintain ownership of major hazard risks, process safety, and asset integrity, while ensuring climate adaptation and resilience requirements are incorporated into operational and asset strategies.

Building strong relationships with regulators, emergency services, and other external stakeholders will be a key part of protecting Calor's licence to operate.

OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE AND RELIABILITY

You will lead the production network to deliver safe, reliable, and efficient operations that meet customer requirements and support business growth.

This will include:

  • Optimising production capacity, planning, and asset utilisation.
  • Driving performance through clear KPIs, operational reviews, and data-led decision-making.
  • Improving reliability, availability, and productivity.
  • Ensuring production and refurbishment targets are consistently achieved.
  • Establishing consistent standards and best practice across multiple sites.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs.

ASSET STRATEGY AND CAPITAL INVESTMENT

With accountability for the long-term production asset strategy, you will ensure Calor's infrastructure remains safe, compliant, reliable, and fit for future requirements.

You will lead significant capital investment programmes, asset replacement plans, and strategic improvement initiatives, ensuring investment decisions deliver maximum value while maintaining the highest standards of safety and asset integrity.

You will also oversee preventative, corrective, and reliability-centred maintenance strategies to protect the resilience and performance of critical infrastructure.

TRANSFORMATION AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

Calor is continuing to evolve, and this role will be central to that transformation.

You will challenge established ways of working and lead initiatives that make our operations safer, simpler, more productive, and more sustainable.

Your remit will include supporting and delivering strategic programmes involving:

  • Network optimisation.
  • Automation and digitalisation.
  • Asset footprint redesign.
  • Lean manufacturing.
  • Operational performance improvement.
  • Root cause analysis and structured problem solving.
  • New approaches to maintenance and asset management.

We are looking for a leader who is comfortable operating in an environment of change and can turn strategic ambition into measurable operational results.

LEADERSHIP AND PEOPLE

You will lead, develop, and inspire a geographically dispersed operational leadership team and create the conditions for people to perform at their best.

You will build capability and succession across the organisation, develop future leaders, and establish a culture of accountability, collaboration, engagement, and continuous improvement.

Your ability to connect with people—from frontline operations through to senior leadership—will be as important as your technical and operational expertise.

FINANCIAL AND COMMERCIAL LEADERSHIP

You will own significant production operating and capital expenditure budgets and be accountable for delivering agreed financial targets.

Through effective cost management, productivity improvements, and asset optimisation, you will identify opportunities to improve return on assets while maintaining safety, service, and operational resilience.

You will also contribute to strategic business planning and future investment decisions.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for an accomplished senior operational leader with experience of working in a high-hazard, asset-intensive, or highly regulated industrial environment.

You will combine strong technical credibility with strategic thinking, commercial awareness, and exceptional leadership capability.

You are likely to bring:

  • Significant senior leadership experience within high-hazard industrial operations.
  • Strong knowledge of COMAH, process safety management, and asset integrity.
  • Experience leading large, geographically dispersed operational teams across multiple sites.
  • A proven track record of delivering operational excellence, productivity, and reliability improvements.
  • Experience managing significant operational and capital investment budgets.
  • Strong stakeholder management and regulatory engagement capability.
  • The ability to operate confidently at executive and board level while remaining connected to frontline operations.
  • A degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or a related discipline.
  • NEBOSH Diploma or an equivalent health and safety qualification.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE

Experience within LPG, energy, chemical, petrochemical, or another highly regulated industry would be advantageous.

We would also welcome experience in:

  • Major business or operational transformation.
  • Lean Six Sigma and continuous improvement.
  • Digitalisation and automation.
  • Advanced maintenance and reliability strategies.
  • Network optimisation or large-scale asset transformation.
