Head of Production (Board Level)

Location: Oldbury, Birmingham

Position: Head of Production

Reporting to: Managing Director

About Latham’s Steel Doors

Driven by rapidly increasing demand due to recent significant investment, Latham’s is entering an exciting era of growth. As a market leader in steel door manufacturing, we are rapidly scaling our infrastructure.

We now need Head of Production to take the operational reins, stepping into a board level role to lead the complete expansion of our manufacturing and warehousing functions.

The Opportunity

This high impact position places you at the centre of our Manufacturing and Warehouse operations. While working closely with wider commercial functions like finance, sales, and procurement to support business goals, this role is dedicated purely to operational performance and execution of the strategic vision designed by you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational at board level, contributing to long term business strategy, capacity planning, and scaling initiatives, designed and driven by you.
  • Present operational performance, forward looking strategic plans, and capital investment proposals directly to the Board and key stakeholders.
  • Ability to translate top level business strategy into clear, actionable goals for each level.
  • Drive continuous improvement across manufacturing and warehousing using recognised LEAN principles.
  • Maximise the capabilities of our ERP system to streamline scheduling, tracking, inventory management, and overall operational workflow.
  • Create, refine, and enforce robust operational SOPs.
  • Increase output through improved efficiency while maintaining rigorous Quality Assurance and Health & Safety compliance. Lead production line layout, flow planning (proficiency with AutoCAD is strongly preferred).
  • Establish, track, and enforce clear performance KPIs across output and efficiency.
  • Directly manage a leadership team of up to 5 direct reports, with indirect responsibility for a wider operational team of 50+ staff across production and warehousing.
  • Create a high performance, high morale environment through active empowerment and structured training.
  • Ensure clear, seamless interdepartmental communication between production, warehousing, and the wider business.

Experience Required

  • A minimum of 10 years operational management experience in manufacturing environment, with a proven track record of playing a key part in taking a business through significant growth.
  • Highly analytical mindset with a strong ability to master complex operational technologies.
  • Hands on capability or strong working familiarity with AutoCAD for facility layout, line optimisation, and space planning.
  • Outstanding executive presence, skilled at presenting complex operational data to board members while effectively motivating and empowering front line teams.
  • Demonstrated success introducing and sustaining LEAN manufacturing techniques, robust SOPs, and actionable KPIs in a fast paced environment.
